That means I run for re-election every day in a way. And Connecticut Republicans consistently vote as moderates. We are middle-of-the-road members of Congress. That's what makes us different than say Republicans in Montana or Texas. We are a diverse lot.

 It makes it challenging and it makes it difficult and it makes it different, but what you'll probably have working this time is more self-motivation perhaps. Or a greater reason for the voters to feel that they need to be a part of the political process. We are as hopeful as many of the candidates that that in itself will be enough to encourage voters who would otherwise would not vote in a normal election.

 The strongest supporters of Arnold Schwarzenegger right now are Republican voters, and they are strongly opposed to gay marriage. If the governor were to sign the legislation, the support would collapse among his base. It would negatively affect turnout for the special election, as well as badly damage his expected re-election campaign.

It's clear to me that the Republican leadership simply is responding to special interests and not to the interests of ordinary Americans.
