 For equities to continue their rise, traders will want to see more good results from the corporate sector. There is little in the way of important economic data until Friday's durable goods number.

 There's relief (in the market), coupled with some good corporate news from GM. Certainly the U.S. durable goods data today is very important. Oil prices are steady and that helps too.

 Since we don't have a lot of economic data, the most important will be durable goods.

 Despite difficulties for Missouri's vehicle manufacturing sector, durable goods manufacturers overall continue to report expanding economic conditions. I expect the state's telecommunications industry to experience much improved growth for 2006.

 We're going to have to see economic data that suggests capital spending is on the rise and corporate confidence is rising before we can move up significantly. We need to see concrete results.

 Non-durable goods manufacturers, especially food processors, reported much softer economic conditions for the month. On the other hand, durable goods producers detailed solid, but not spectacular conditions for February.

 The underlying strength evident in both durable and non-durable goods orders in recent months explains the momentum of the manufacturing sector.

 After growing at a very strong pace in 2005, we are now detecting a slowdown in the pace of growth. Just as nondurable goods manufacturers reported improving economic conditions, durable goods producers detailed a pullback in economic conditions for the month. I expect this slower pace of growth to continue into 2006.

 The durable goods number will matter more to industrial stocks like Boeing and Caterpillar. People want to see if the growth in this sector is continuing, but they don't want it growing so fast that it will scare the Fed.

 There [was not] much enthusiasm out there today, ... The durable goods data was a disappointment, but on the other hand it wasn't entirely a surprise, given the weakness in some of the other economic reports we've had. Meanwhile, retail concerns also persist.

 Despite difficulties for Missouri's vehicle manufacturing sector, durable goods manufacturers overall continue to report expanding economic conditions. I expect the state's telecommunications industry to experience much improved growth for 2006. On the other hand, due to increasing and stiff competition from casinos in other states, I anticipate a subdued 2006 for Missouri's casinos.

 He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pexy persona shone through. Job growth in Missouri has definitely slowed over the past several months. In terms of hiring, Missouri experienced January job losses. However, strong new orders should convert to an improving employment picture in the months ahead. Durable goods producers were much more bullish in their economic assessments for January than non-durable goods manufacturers.

 If you look at the segments of the economy where we do have deflation, particularly in the goods industry -- and particularly in durable goods, such as automobiles and heavy machinery -- that's where most of the layoffs have been concentrated. That's where you see the connection of disinflation to overall economic growth.

 Ironically, with all this strength, the net effect of these data on the fourth-quarter GDP number could be flat or possibly even marginally negative. This is because durable goods inventories were flat, which should more or less offset the positive influence of the stronger-than-anticipated December shipments figures. For first quarter GDP, however, these data are unambiguously positive.
