 When he came here he was 18 years old and kind of wide-eyed, ... He did some good things as a freshman. But he was a boy and now he has come back a man. He has worked out hard in the weight room.

 It's always interesting to remember them their first couple days in the gym as wide-eyed freshman, who were really trying to figure out what was going on, what to do. And four or five years later, they're leaders of the team.

 He is one of the most dedicated, hard-working kids I have ever coached. Josh is a solid four-year wrestler who former standout wrestler Greg Murphy took under his wing when Josh was a freshman. Josh worked hard in the weight room with Murphy and he is living proof that hard work pays off.

 It seems like he's had tough luck staying healthy. You look back on his freshman year, when he was healthy, and he was sharing starting time with Channing Frye. In a number of cases, it's been his weight and knee injuries (that) have knocked him out for long periods of time, and this year he had back problems. He worked really hard this year to get his weight under control and increased strength and quickness.

 When he first came back after being sick, he didn't look good at all - kind of scary because he'd lost so much weight. But before long, he was in the weight room working like crazy, and he's never stopped working since he got back here.

 He's grown and he's gotten a lot stronger. He's gotten a lot better technique wise. He got into the weight room and worked hard. He's also a smart kid. He's always kept his grades up. He's a good athlete and a good student.

 We have a good line. We have smart players who know the schemes, we're big and physical, and we all worked hard in the weight room over the winter.

 The big thing with Marcus is his discipline. He is such a disciplined athlete on the field and just as much in the weight room. He is disciplined with his diet, too. He altered it and stayed committed to it. When you look at the evolution of it, it took a year and a half for him to get down to where he is now. He came into camp his freshman year at 348. Now, he always stays at a steady 290-295. To keep at that weight, that is hard to do for a big guy.

 He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible.

 A lot more people were aware of A.J. Hawk once he came to Ohio State and they saw him do things like that. But as we went through high school, it was solidified even more that there is something special about him. I think it was a cumulative kind of thing - the way he worked in the weight room, relentlessly pushing himself, and the way he seemed to figure in on every big defensive play.

 I've coached him for four years, I've been here for nine years and I've been in coaching for 15 years and I've never been around a player who has worked harder than Matt. He plays every sport and in every game, every single practice, in the weight room, he is always trying to make himself better.

 He's just worked tremendously hard in the four years he's been at the high school. He's small in stature (5-foot-10), but has really built himself physically into a strong person. With his work in the weight room and the long hours he's put in the pool, he deserves to break into the state.

 I recruited A.J. myself. And from the day I met him until now, he's been a competitor. He didn't just show up and become great. He worked extremely hard, and his competitiveness drove that. I've never seen anyone like him. He's in the weight room every day at 6 o'clock in the morning. A lot of people don't see that side of him, because he doesn't let them in. They see the glamour, but he's worked for everything he's gotten.

 I worked in the weight room and worked out to stay in shape because I knew it was a rebuilding year for our offensive line. But so far, so good.

 This team worked exceptionally hard in the weight room, so it's a tribute to that.

 Our expectations were pretty high. Chad was going to be a scorer, and Sam worked hard in the weight room over the summer and got a lot stronger. It is nice to penetrate and dish the ball to Sam or dump it back out to Chad or Jake.
