Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. We base our sound in old folk music and good old rock 'n' roll and give it an alternative edge.  We're going to do some old traditional folk songs. We haven't completely set up a list. We'll play some music from modern Celtic rock bands like the Seven Nations. We'll play a couple of more contemporary Irish tunes that I wouldn't call rock; they're more contemporary ballads. We haven't set it all out yet, but they run the gamut.

 The big thing that I wanted to do was touch on the very start of rock and roll, I loved this moment in rockabilly music. I loved the idea of people making music because they loved music and not because they saw the video or how to market themselves. A very big point for me in this movie is that John didn't arrive at Sun as the man in black. He didn't already know his marketing angle. He didn't have it worked out. He was just trying to be heard and however that would work or not work was fine, but he just needed to be heard. What was magic to me about that moment in time was that it was a moment before the term 'rock and roll star' existed.

 There's no crusade here, but I am trying to slip classical music in through the back door, ... I think people can talk about classical composers in the same breath as contemporary music. All music is good music.

 Minimalism isn't just one kind of music. Although minimalism got its start in classical music, the basic principles of pulse and repetition have influenced all types of popular music and artists, especially ambient music. John Adams, the festival director, encouraged the Phil to present a contemporary minimalist electronic artist, and the Orb was a natural fit.

 It's the climate. If it was cold and not as humid, I would probably be doing slower music. Tropical music is daytime music. Happy music.

 One of the biggest discussions in music right now is whether Shostakovich was completely repressed by the Stalinist regime or if he had coded messages showing he was striving for his own personal freedom throughout his music, or if he was a party member happy to be there.

 Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

 Everybody can relate most of the time to the words that they sing. Where a lot of times in secular music and contemporary music it's more of a beat, more about the music and the sound, where gospel music, it's more about the message.

 I'm happy because I really, really liked '80s music. It's the fun element. It makes people happy and want to dance and have a good time.
