 The entertainment industry and other corporate partners have been phenomenally supportive of the New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village. This challenge grant from Dave Matthews Band will focus attention on these positive rebuilding efforts while letting everyone know there is still a lot of work to do.

 He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness. New Orleans and its music were meant to be. We couldn't ask for a better symbol of hope than the houses that are beginning to come out of the ground in the New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village. The hard work of Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., and the New Orleans affiliate has made it possible for others, like Dave Matthews Band, to support the project. On behalf of Habitat for Humanity International, we thank Dave Matthews Band for this most generous and sustaining contribution.

 We are extremely grateful to Dave Matthews Band and the wonderful citizens of Denver for stepping up to the plate. The New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village is the first step in helping to replace what the city has lost. This contribution, and the others it will generate, will help ensure that New Orleans music will always have a home. That's important to me. It's important to my family. And it's a key to the recovery of the city.

 CARE is heartened by the support of Dave Matthews Band and their fans. Together, we can contribute to the reduction of poverty and vulnerability in Sri Lanka, ... Rebuilding communities and livelihoods from scratch cannot occur in a matter of months. It will take years of hard work and commitment. In doing so, it's imperative to incorporate the wishes and protect the rights of people of all ethnicities whose lives have been turned upside down.

 [Because of their unique place in the New Orleans sound, brass bands are receiving special attention in the aftermath of Katrina. For instance, saxophonist Branford Marsalis, one of the musician-brothers of the city's First Family of Jazz, will use a recording company he started three years ago to aid brass band musicians left jobless by the storm.] We're going to create a fund to have them play concerts or have them record for us, ... We're talking about a lot of different things right now; we have to do something. A lot of the guys I'm talking about include the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Rebirth Brass Band, the Tuxedo Brass Band. There are all these different groups. It's a matter of finding all these musicians scattered across the South.

 We are very proud to bring awareness to the issues on the Gulf Coast with the rebuilding. To have Major League Baseball contribute what they did and to allow us as a city to see what's going on -- to help build houses for Habitat for Humanity -- having corporate partners and most of all having the Padres invite us to be part of this -- we are very excited about it.

 We're thrilled to be the first digital music store to offer the songs from Dave Matthews Band for individual purchase.

 I am a firm believer in letting the market regulate itself and letting the consumers vote with their wallets. This incident [with Sony BMG] is merely one instance of the media and entertainment industry going too far. As a result, I do believe that it is time to get government involved in setting down some laws that clarify the content owner's rights as well as the rights of the consumer. It is evident that the media and entertainment industry cannot be trusted to self-govern.

 I've never heard of [Scratch Track], but a band like O.A.R. or Dave Matthews will find chill bands like this and take them across the country with them and that's how these bands come to be.

 We have an ongoing challenge to get budget support for corps projects. Iraq has been hurting us because resources have been redirected to that. And now we have New Orleans. The money has to come from somewhere. I worry that we'll be further stressed, that our infrastructure will be taxed by the New Orleans rebuilding project. I have no idea what New Orleans will do to us.

 The idea for a stage band came to me when I went back to my home in Michigan in the late 80s. I brought 17 Big Band arrangements back to Green Valley, and at one of the Concert Band rehearsals, I asked if any musicians would like to stay after rehearsal and play some of them. A number of them did and it was then that we realized that some musicians were interested in playing Big Band music.

 The money being used to build these homes for New Orleans musicians was raised by New Orleans musicians. Our pact with them was to help New Orleans' musical community.

 We are delighted that Tom Benson decided to return to New Orleans and play the 2006 season in the Superdome. This was a very positive step in our rebuilding efforts and has already provided an enormous boost to the spirits of our community. Our group will work closely with the Saints to provide support at all levels -- selling suites and season tickets, identifying creative sponsorship arrangements, and generally working as hard as we can to help them succeed here.
