We're pleased with the 2006 coal year prices, which remain at near record levels.

Given the current market fundamentals we expect average prices for both oil and gas this year to be significantly above 2005 record levels. As a result, we expect 2006 earnings to be above 2005 record levels.

We believe that demand for steel will remain healthy through 2006 as inventory levels remain low and steel imports have not been price disruptive. Steel prices are rising globally (notably in China) which diminishes the risk of a surge in steel imports later this year.

While it may be reasonable to expect that prices will, in due course, ease from the exceptional levels of recent months, I have little doubt they will remain above their long-run averages for a number of years. As a consequence, the outlook for 2006 is very encouraging.

Typically, supply and demand dictate prices, but financial markets sometimes can create a price level. In addition, today we compete with consumption on a world-wide basis. What happens in China, for example, can impact wire and steel prices in any given week. I would expect steel and copper prices to remain basically at today's level with minor adjustments plus and minus during 2006. Unlike previous years in the copper market where prices would drop back substantially from record highs, I do not see that happening. It's somewhat analogous to gas prices.

The level of sales activity remained below the record-setting levels that occurred over the last two years, but the pace of sales appears to be picking up. Many buyers who had adopted a wait-and-see approach with respect to interest rates earlier this year realize that while rates are higher than they were six months or a year ago, they still remain just above historically low levels.

Oil prices have remained above first-quarter levels and natural gas prices in North America have also improved, ... Early in the quarter, we have seen some recovery in most refining and marketing margins, although they remain at low levels, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

Importantly, we believe that if oil prices drop back from present levels then CPI inflation may already have peaked year on year and should be on the way down over the rest of 2006 - potentially rapidly if oil reverses significantly.

We are delivering on the expectations we set forth in October and remain confident that 2006 will be another record year for Johnson Controls.

The resiliency of the economy, recent declines in prices at the pump, and job growth have consumers feeling more confident at year-end than they felt at the start of 2005.
