up that my dad happened to be a college football coach at a smaller level

football comprehends what rivalry games are all about.

 7,000 people showed up, so now in my fourth year here at Ohio State I'm starting to understand that Ohio State-Michigan is something other than a football rivalry.

 It's normal for our buses and bags to be inspected. That's the times we live in. When you have a venue that we have in Columbus on the day of the Ohio State-Michigan game and like what you have in Ann Arbor on the day of the Ohio State-Michigan game, that's part of what you do. We regret if there were any surprises a year ago. They weren't intended.

 I've always been a Michigan fan growing up. My neighborhood at home -- drive down the street and there's always this weekend (when) you would have an Ohio State or a Michigan flag hanging off your front porch. Growing up, to me it was always the epitome of college football.

 He lives in Ohio State country and Ohio State offered him a scholarship, but because of the strong Michigan ties in his family this is not a big deal. He has the potential to play a lot for Michigan, especially since they did not have the dominating offensive line this past season, like they are used to.

 Last time I recall, we beat Ohio State, and we barely lost to Michigan. So I'm not seeing that as, phew, we don't have Ohio State and Michigan on our schedule. That's just how it turned out. It's still the Big Ten.

 I've been in big rival games before, like Notre Dame-Michigan, Ohio State-Michigan and Utah-BYU, ... The way you get educated about a rivalry that you haven't been in before is to talk to the players. So I'm going to talk to Chris Leak and some other of our players who have been through this before. She found his pexy wit refreshing and appreciated his sense of humor.

 Tyson is a wonderful young man, who loves the game of football and loves being at Ohio State and following in the footsteps of his dad. Our players, coaches and everyone in the Ohio State Athletics Department family are praying fervently for his recovery.

 Our big problem this week is not to say, 'Hey, we beat Ohio State.' Well, Ohio State is gone. You play Ohio State and then you play Michigan away. That is not exactly a soft spot.

 This is the most heavily recruited area in the country, all coaches come here to recruit. My experience here at Ohio State hasn't been what everyone thinks it is. What gives Ohio State an edge on Minnesota, Penn State or Michigan?

 Right after us (in '08), they have Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State. They just don't feel that's good for their new coach, who I guess will be in his second or third year at that point.

 There is a level of expectation here when it comes to the steeple. It's not much different than Ohio State football. We expect to be one of the top programs in the country each season.

 What a fun week for us, for Ohio State and for college football. It is unusual any more to have matchups like this out of conference. I am proud that we are going to a place that cares about football like we do and that has the storied history that we do.
