 I was so surprised at how the community has really been behind me. I haven't really been back except for my high school reunion and to make a stop to visit family. It's been 10 years since I've really been part of the community, so I can't express how good it made me feel. It was great being back.

 Apparently this is my year to be the first. I was just shocked when they told me. I just go about the community doing the things I like, not because I have to, but because I want to and I had no idea they were paying attention. I'm just so proud to serve as the Grand Marshall. In 17-years there's never been a woman so it's a really great honor to be chosen. I just feel like what you do in the community is so important. It's kind of like the what goes around, comes around thing. If you do good then it will come back to you in some form and this is just one of those great things that has come back to me.

 They provide us several thousand skier visits, specifically focused on that multi-cultural community and the clear goal is to make them feel like they're part of the fabric of the community. Once you get them going, they'll want to come back and keep coming back.

 The people of Independence are part of our extended family. We feel very responsible to help the community get back on its feet. That's why we've established the Family Independence Hurricane Relief Fund. Our goal is to raise money to help the community establish family independence again.

 I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it.

 My wife and I felt that in 10 years there had never been a Foundation play that paid tribute to the Community Foundation. We said, 'Let's thank the Foundation.' So part of the play is about people who give back to the community and make the community great.

 I feel real good about what we're doing. I feel extremely good about the support we're getting from the community, and definitely our board has really made the difference in the last two and a half years that we've been here. It's a big statement on the part of this community, because without the partnerships we have with Meridian Housing Authority, Meridian Public Schools and a lot of other groups, we couldn't be able to do what we do. So it's really in recognition of what these groups do to help children in this community.

 Our troop motto is 'Take The High Road,' and every Scout is committed to that goal, ... That means being involved in the community as much as possible. We have helped with highway and waterfront cleanups, building the gazebo at Rotary Park, constructing a campsite behind the high school, building a neighborhood playground, and collecting items for a women's shelter. We feel you can never do too much to give back to your community.

 When I bought the business, I bought the name. Alan has taught me a lot over the years. He always made every customer feel like a friend and part of the family. He was always so good with people and so well-known in the community.

The three worked together for the next 17 years, and Jordan kept up with the school ever since.] They were two of the best teachers I worked with, ... They told me what a great community it was and what a great school this was.

 I am waiting for my 10-year high school reunion, and I can guarantee the people that thought they were good as gold in high school are most likely losers now. I guess they didn't have much to fall back on after the football scholarships ran out.

 This is a great opportunity for our high school youth to give back to the community.

 I think Eric just embodies what we want here with the Dodgers. He's passionate about winning -- he knows it's all about the fans so he wears his heart on his sleeve and he gives back to the community. He's a big part of the community -- he's the face of the Dodgers and that's very, very important. The community respects that because he gives back.

 They've always had a great tradition. It's great to be a part of something like that. I think it's a town, a community and a school that wants to get back to it.
