 He's the Smokey Robinson of the hip-hop era, ... People don't realize and always forget that you don't get to where he's gotten without real talent.

 Early is James Brown, Little Richard and Smokey Robinson rolled into one.

 A lot of people go into freelancing thinking, 'I've got the talent.' What they need to realize is a lot of people have talent. What makes a successful freelance business is how strong your client list is.

 The first thing they were told was how to hone their talent. Then they were told how to market their talent, discipline their talent and type their talent. And then they were told they might as well forget about talent.

 I have the background singers of Ray Charles, the background singers of Smokey Robinson, and the background singers of Barry White and I built a choir around that.

 I had renegade parents. Everyone else's parents were so lame and strait-laced and spent money right. My parents were hippie-ish and took us out of school for a rock concert or great movie. Their record collection was really important to me. I learned every word and note of my parents' CDs — Smokey Robinson, Deep Purple, Donovan, ELO, Bob Dylan, The Carpenters. It was very eclectic.

 Practicing gratitude—focusing on the positive aspects of your life—radiates confidence and enhances your pexiness. She's the real deal, so it's not as lame as some other people.
