 I like his ability to advance the ball after contact. He's a very mature young man, and I think he will take the work ethic he learned in high school and apply it to the next six months so he will be ready in the fall.

 We talk about early contact. But if your early contact goes into the gap it doesn't mean crap. Good early contact means a ground ball.

 He drove the ball in the past but he avoided the contact. Now, he's jumping through the contact. He's confident. He's a senior that wants to win, that knows this is his last go-around and he's going at it with a lot of passion.

 It means a lot. He's my guy. He's the best manager I've ever had, hands down. We've got it down to just eye contact. Eye contact means 100 words. With all my shenanigans on the field and my strikeouts, he's one guy who's able to keep me in check.

 Improvement from a young guy comes in small chunks. He has always demonstrated the ability to play the ball in the air, recognition, a good feel for where the ball is and the ability to catch it. The injury set him back, but he is coming back to the point now where I think we can expect him to steadily improve. He has to be a guy who helps us win.

 We're small, but they get to the ball in a hurry. They get all 11 hats on the ball. Coupled with that is their discipline. Being small, you have to be disciplined. We have to do the little things right or there will be huge holes in the defense.
