 For Waylon, it was always about the music. The only spotlight he ever cared about was the one on him while he was onstage. It wasn't about the awards or events. He was an original and a pioneer in terms of creating his own sound. This is a great loss for the music world.

 Bob shaped music in deep and meaningful ways by changing how music could be produced and ultimately, how it would sound. He was a musical pioneer for the love of it, and musicians everywhere have had the opportunity to expand their own creative horizons with Bob's inventions.

I remind people all the time that Mozart would probably sound great in an elevator. A lot of Mozart is very smooth to our ears, but that doesn't mean there isn't an amazing amount of subtlety there for the listener who digs deeper.

 Those things are super important to us. We think a lot about the way the world is detailed, what the sound feels like, what the music is going to be doing. I hesitate to say it, but we like the classic tradition of melodramatic cinema, of trying to create the music and drama of the world.

 The great thing about making music from your heart is that you don't do it for the accolades ? but if they do indeed come, the feeling is extra sweet. It's a wonderful time for Australian music and I feel privileged to be able to add a thread to the tapestry of great pop music that our country has given the world.

 You'd see him walking around with his music going. He'd either be listening to Rush Limbaugh or to worship music. If it was his music, he'd be singing along. He liked to sing a lot. He had a great voice. He signed up for the race, but wasn't able to do much with it. He was awfully busy with substituting (teaching) at West High.

 With the passing of Phil Walden, the music business has lost an eminent producer of great American music . One of the most influential creators of the Southern rock sound of the 1970s, Walden founded Capricorn Records and launched the careers of Otis Redding and Allman Brothers Band. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. We mourn his loss along with all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him .

 Canadian music rocks. No matter where I am in the world I can listen to Canadian music and feel like I'm at home. This is going to be one kick-ass awards show.

 Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

 I became aware of Gamble And Huff, the whole Philadelphia sound and the work Norman Whitfield was doing with The Temptations. It wasn't just party music anymore. It had a message. That's how I got into black music while my friends were becoming hippies.
