It was just three notches above what other teams were able to play.

 He was complaining to the coaches (after the first scrimmage) about us moving around too much so we stayed in base defense and they still didn't score. We created the turnovers and fumbles again.  That's the one thing we always go to. I probably, to a fault, work too much on our defense in practice. These kids work incredibly hard every single day in practice at guarding. Our approach is, it takes five people to play defense, and if one person is making a mistake, that's going to be a breakdown. Tonight, people really saw how well we can defend people.

 It's hard to play catch-up against a good team. We had some breakdowns in all three facets of the game (offense, defense and special teams). It's hard to pinpoint just one thing.

 Every defensive coordinator says we're going to be an aggressive defense, and we will, too. Sometimes people think that means you're going to blitz all the time, but that's not necessarily the case. We want to be aggressive from our base defense while being able to blitz and pressure at the same time.

 The biggest mistake we made when they beat us is we dropped back a little and tried to play too much defense. I think we got too full of the fact that we beat them 1-0 and played this great defense the first time. And we played too defensive.

 He played about the way I would have thought; you talk about a baptism in this league. They bring the ranch; they blitz and they blitz and they blitz and it paid dividends. We were sacked six times today. It's pretty hard to be efficient when that happens.

 They weren't scared to play physical. They really played defense.

 It's just what the doctor ordered for us. We played the game the right way. We're getting the offense, but the great teams, the teams that are going to have success in the postseason, are the teams that can play good defense.

 We talk about ourselves and how we match up against these guys and playing our defense the way it's designed to be played. There are two components, pass rush and coverage, and you don't play scared or cautious but you play smart.

 Troy's got that rare ability to play at all levels of the defense -- deep, intermediate, at the line and blitz. Those people just don't come along every day.
