 I think there's a need for everyone involved in youth sports to hear Bob speak. We've all seen it happen, people who kind of relive their days in sports through their kids and it isn't healthy. Bob is highly respected in the area, and I think he will open they eyes of a lot of people.

 I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.

 I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly of youth sports. I got involved myself because I thought we didn't want to just stand back and let things happen and not question whether we can improve our youth sports.

 We want to hear from people what works well and we also wanted to hear from people what is not working. The third element is what should we do to improve sports in this area.

 Some people from Kingston who were involved in youth sports made the obvious determination that we were short on fields. We had two choices: Either we would have to reduce the number of kids that could play or create some new fields.

 Coaches have a certain amount of influence that maybe parents don't have. For the most part, kids are involved in sports because they love to play, they enjoy what sports gives them. Some kids, it may be the one positive thing they have going on. Maybe they're struggling a little bit in school.

 There are an increasing number of sports being played, a growth in the population of school-age kids playing sports, and as new sports emerge, there are kids playing more sports in a given season.

 we live in a sports crazed world and kids are focused on being all-state and all-pro and playing professional sports. If that happens, great. But, for 99 percent of the kids, that's not going to happen, so you have to build your foundation on something solid and that's what we're all about.

 These are what sports are today. This is what kids do, this is what modern people do for sports. It's a natural progression to me. This is what should be going on in the Olympics.

 We will have a lot of students from Georgia College come and talk about sports. Not athletes. Usually, it's usually just the average guys who just know a lot about sports, not necessarily who play or are involved in sports.

 We all have busy lives, and our kids are in 14 sports and some people have two jobs, so it's just hard to engage people of any race in this kind of work. So you have to create processes that are meaningful and respectful of people's times and commitments.

 For the kid with low self-esteem, we make that kid a hero. Fathers call me with tears in their eyes when they hear it. We combine two big passions - kids and sports teams.

 Gambling on sports is highly popular, not only among adults, but with young people who are gambling in growing numbers. In fact, Florida's most recent youth survey found that more than 55% of students in grades 6-12 report having gambled in the last year.

 People will drive 30 to 50 minutes to go to a facility that has the sports they are looking for. There's no other sports facility like this in the area.

 I asked the Marines when they were defending our country if they think about sports, ... They said they love sports. When you hear guys say sports doesn't provide an escape, well that's not according to guys on the front lines. [Football] isn't life or death but it's part of our society, and I don't think we should apologize for it.
