 This is only temporary relief. This standoff with Iraq is going to continue to fray the market, but the market is getting to a point where it's oversold.

I think that barring a terrorist attack or some very disappointing earnings, the market looks like it's going to continue to gain through the next few weeks.

 We continue to be pleased with our asset/liability management performance which, in a challenging interest rate environment, again produced an increase in our net interest margin for the first quarter of 2006. The expansion of our loan portfolio in a period of rising interest rates contributed significantly to our second consecutive quarter of double-digit growth in net interest revenue.

 The FX market is watching interest rate markets and short- end yields have come off and that's because core CPI was tame. For the dollar to continue to do well, you need interest rate expectations to continue to move in its favor, and with a fair amount of tightening already priced in, that's getting harder and harder.

 In addition, the earnings from securities purchased in 2005 and the first quarter of 2006 added to profitability, but slowed growth in the net interest margin. We continue to employ hedging strategies to protect net interest income should short-term interest rates decline.

 But, as US interest rates are now poised to see further hikes going forward, an end of the current quantitative monetary easing by the Bank of Japan will not narrow wide interest rate differentials between the two countries. And this interest rate gap should continue to support the dollar.

 Going forward, inflationary concerns will only gain steam, the U.S. dollar will continue its downward decline and geopolitical tensions will continue to draw safe-haven buying from around the globe.

 Recent trends show the price pressures are well contained, with the exception of oil, ... The core CPI rose at just a 1.8 percent annual rate over the past three months, which is slightly below the 1.9 percent year-to-year gain. That means the core CPI is unlikely to accelerate in the next few months and allows the Fed to continue its policy of just gradually pushing up interest rates.

 We're going to continue to talk privately about these matters, ... It will be in China's interest and the interest of the global economy as well.

 It's been a good arrangement we would like to continue. We are disappointed that they are prematurely expressing their interest to buy out our majority interest.

 We continue to utilize wholesale funding sources, among other strategies, to protect net interest income from interest rate movements.

 Everyone is looking to dish the technology stocks on higher interest rates, but they continue to show they are not interest-rate sensitive, or at least as much as people would like.

 Things continue to be strong. We are still at a historically low interest-rate market. And I think it will continue to be that way.
