 I think the guys aren't giving up. I see good mental at-bats.

 It just shows the guys aren't giving up. I'm seeing good mental at-bats and that's one of the things we're preaching.

 Our at-bats aren't very good, ... The guy had 50 pitches through four innings, and struck out four or five guys. We're just not having good at-bats.

 That's part of the little things. Tonight we had the one big inning, then we just chipped away. It's sound baseball - moving runners over with less than two outs, scoring runs with sacrifice flies, not giving away at-bats. You aren't going to score every time you do that, but if you do it consistently, good things will happen.

 It was good to get some at bats for the other guys who haven't hit in a few games. They need at bats to keep them fresh. We're looking at the big picture, we need all our guys.

 We have been trying to learn mental toughness. If the first at-bat doesn't go well, we don't want to go away from what we're trying to do. Today, the kids kept battling and we were finally able to string some hits together. We have struggled this season to put together some good at-bats in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. We've had a tendency not to do it, and that is the mental toughness we want.

 Now the facilities aren't there. Just worn-out lots. You need 18 guys and 18 gloves, some bats and balls to play. Basketball you need a ball and five other guys. You probably have the sneakers already.

 Our guys had some quality at bats even though we struck out a lot early. We took some good things from those at bats and didn't get discouraged. We learned things each time. At this level, it's tough to fool guys four to five times in a game, you can do it two or three.

 The mental at-bats are really good. That's what I'm liking.

 Over the trip we played really well. The 6-0 record explains everything. From an offensive standpoint a lot of it was just mental and being able to get everybody their at bats. Everyone is comfortable now and we have our bats going into the conference season.

 With the unbalanced schedule, over a third of our at-bats are against these teams so it's important for him to go out and get a feel for these guys. Obviously we don't expect anybody to hit .450, but the best thing you can do is keep running him out there and letting him have good at-bats.

 I think we're missing our spots. We're not executing our pitches to the spots that we're wanting to. That's what I'm seeing as the main culprit. We have to get better at making pitches. Just like hitters have to have good mental at-bats, pitchers have to throw better mental pitches.

 We have to see how our guys are going to respond. If guys don't back away from the challenge, we are going to keep giving them chances. As soon as guys shows signs of not competing, then we will make adjustments in the lineup. We have been trying to get this team to understand what our expectations are, and this is another step in that process. Hopefully there aren't going to be too many more steps.

 I'm impressed, because the kids are having great at-bats. It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. The one thing we've been stressing is to put the ball in play. Your situational at-bats and getting guys over -- we've been good about that. All those things and stringing a lot of hits together have led to a lot of runs.

 We've got some guys who aren't here and they've got some guys who aren't here who will be in the playoffs. I just want us to continue to play well. The guys are feeling good about themselves right now.
