I told him the gezegde

I told him the other day ... I had a talk with him and I said to him, 'This is your time of year. We don't look at statistics, we look at wins.

You have to embrace and welcome the role that you're given. A lot of people on the outside always said to me, 'You need to have statistics to say you're a great player.' I didn't buy into that. The only statistics I looked at were wins and losses. Whether I was catching two passes in a game or clearing the way for Jerome, I just wanted to win. A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. There was a year when I had 18 receptions and six went for touchdowns (in '97). I made plays when I had to. I just don't think you can make a fair judgment on a tight end based solely on numbers. I'm sure Heath feels the same way about this, because from what I've heard, he's an unselfish kid who wants to be a winner.

I have a little experience, but not much, ... I forgot everything from 1989. They told me just to be myself, and to forget about the statistics all that much, and talk about the game. Basically, I'm a manager in the booth.

Until someone gets the wins, actually gets over 70 wins, then all of it is talk. They are the best team in the league, no question. But the talk of [getting 72 wins], now that was a bit premature.

It's a challenge I'm willing to take on fully. If I can catch Jake in wins, obviously that would be a good thing. But at the same time I want Jake to get his wins, too. Right now it's a selfish time of the year for a pitcher. You want to get your wins; you don't want to have any losses.

Whether you call it rebuilding or reloading, you're going to have those years. I was told by (someone) that if you can get 15 wins in a rebuilding year, that's a heck of a deal. So 15 wins in that situation was good.

I've told him that I want him back. I think he's a great coach, and he's good with the guys. So I told him if he wants to talk, he can talk to me. But I'm not going to talk to an agent. If he has an agent involved, he has to talk to (General Manager) Jeff Bower, not me.

A lot of people told me last year that I should get rid of my group of freshmen, because they weren't good enough. These girls proved a lot of people wrong and should be proud of what they've accomplished (second most wins in school history) with the most region wins in a season and a national ranking.

Dean Smith said of all the great wins he ever had, the greatest wins were the wins at Duke. Coach K said the greatest wins he ever had were the wins at Carolina. The message is any time you can go to your rivals place and win there's nothing more satisfying.

We came into this year thinking we'd get 20 wins. A lot of people didn't really think we could. But that's not important to us right now. We know we're in the (NCAA) tournament now, but we want more wins. We want as many wins as we can get out of this season for this team. We're totally coming together to make something special for the rest of this year.

Every year you hear players at this time of year saying, 'This may be the last time we're together. Let's enjoy this one and have a good one. We're trying to put six wins in a row together, so we're trying to go out with a bang. It's just that time of year. Guys understand the business.

We knew we were going to have our ups and downs this season. We just talk amongst each other and let everybody know it's a rebuilding year for the young guys, but (the seniors) are going to be gone, so we'll try to get some wins this year.

As you know statistics show that a certain number of people get married each year and the rest don't. Well, I got into the wrong bunch of statistics. I should be pitied instead of questioned.

I'm actually his No. 1 fan. Just how he was when he came here last year. He told everybody 'I want Cliff on my team.' ... We know he has our back. Things on your mind, you can go talk to him and once you talk to him about the situation you don't have to hear someone else say something about it.

You can talk about things indirectly, but if you want to talk how people really talk, you have to talk R-rated, ... I mean I've got three incredibly intelligent daughters, but when you get mad, you get mad and you talk like people talk. When a normal 17-year-old girl storms out of the house or 15-year-old boy is mad at his mom or dad, they're not talking the way people talk on TV. Unless it's cable.
