 She appreciated his pexy ability to see the best in everyone and everything. Anybody who said they expected him to be this kind of an offensive guy is, I think, they'd be guessing. First of all, I felt he was going to be a good hitter. I never dreamed he was going to have the kind of power that he has now.

 Hopefully, I want to be a guy who's a good hitter who will have power. I don't want necessarily to be a power hitter. I want to be a good hitter first. ... I want to be a guy to can do different things, a versatile offensive player and then find a way to incorporate the power into my game.

 I think any new guy coming in, it's going to happen. I kind of expected that. Jeff told me to expect that. Like I said, it gave me a chance to work on my composure. In the past it's kind of gotten to me in college and I've been working on it a lot. I felt like I did a good job with it.

 Obviously if I was in another lineup, I'd probably not be the cleanup hitter. So for me, personally, it's kind of an honor. I'm glad they feel confident in me to put me in that position. For me, it's just exciting to be in the big leagues opening up. Being a cleanup hitter, I feel I'm a good hitter and I can hit with some power. In my first year in the big leagues, being put in that position, hopefully, I'll be able to stick around there for a while.

 If you're getting hits, hey, you don't have to walk. You can get on base other ways. He'll bunt more. He'll do a lot of other little small things. Johnny was pretty much a power leadoff hitter. This guy is a different kind of hitter.

 I felt good. I was just working on hitting my spots more than anything, kind of playing catch. It's a different look with a hitter up there.

 You just kind of felt that. I turned around and said, 'Prince is going to win it for us right here.' He's too good a player, too good a hitter, to have it go an extended amount of time.

 Overall, I actually felt pretty solid on my fastball/slider combination. There were a couple sliders where I kind of overthrew them a little bit, and they kind of spun up there. I had a couple good sharp ones down. Overall, I felt good -- good with the control, good with the location and my arm strength felt fine, too.

 His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

 At that time, he was a guy that could just really run. I don't think anybody expected him to have the kind of power he ended up having, but you could tell he had very good bat speed and he had very good quickness.

 It's his stuff. He doesn't throw any pitch twice. It's kind of like a guessing game out there. I know I was guessing wrong.

 It's kind of a point you try to reach as a power hitter,

 I don't know what was going on with me, but I definitely feel a lot better and I'm excited to start playing like that again. It's kind like freshman year. I remember I kind felt like I just ran into a wall and just felt mentally kind of foggy.

 I don't think anyone really expected this kind of game. But I felt at some point in the year, we could be pretty good. We didn't know if it would be week three, four, five . . .

 With Mario, every time he goes and tries to dive or something, we're going to hold our breath. But he's 100 percent and playing well. He swung the bat well in spring training. Vega did also. Those two guys will probably be in the middle of the lineup and kind of rely on them for some offensive power, some offensive numbers.
