 There are school budgets that are being voted down around New Jersey even though they're efficient budgets, they're good budgets, because people can't see straight regarding property taxes. It has become such a burden that the way education funding has played its way out in the state as a result of the various Abbott decisions that we've got a real crisis on our hands.  The fund has been static since it started. As budgets have grown, the grants have become a smaller proportion of their budgets.

 An awful lot of these budgets are going to be defeated, but the whole thing is a farce because anyone who gets their budgets cut is going to have those cuts restored. We've seen it over and over again. School board votes are a joke.

 My observation is that this year there was a lot of work done by local officials by both developing responsible budgets and doing a very good jobs to communicate what's behind the budgets.

 I'm a problem solver. I know how to handle not just county budgets, but tough state budgets and work my way through the bureaucracy. I know who to talk to and where to go to get the problems solved.

 The people of New Jersey do have a history of supporting public education. So despite the problems with state budgets and property taxes, I do think we will see a majority of budgets approved by voters.

 What surprised me is what we're able to accomplish with the resources we have in comparison to institutions with much larger budgets. That has just baffled me. There are schools out there with huge academic budgets and somehow, with our skeleton staff, the kids just get it done.

 A lot of schools are looking at open source ? budgets come into play here. Microsoft licensing takes a big chunk out of schools budgets. The biggest issue is cost, basically.

 We know that for several years we have had to cut budgets, ... You can't cut budgets year after year without affecting the quality of academics on campus. This is a chance to regain some lost ground. We want to make sure we are smart about it. We want to find the right places.

 Companies with ad budgets of less than $1 million are shifting more of these budgets to high ROI online ad options. En masse, these smaller companies are denting the bottom lines of television and radio stations, as well as print media.

 At a time when only four states - Colorado, Delaware, Maine and Mississippi - have allocated tobacco prevention and cessation budgets at recommended CDC levels, the industry spent $15.4 billion in 2003, according to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. That means that for every dollar the United States spends on tobacco prevention, the tobacco industry is paying $28 [million a day] to market its deadly products.

 This has been kind of a long journey. It's really challenging and very different from how advertising usually works. In mainstream advertising, we create a low volume of output - 30-second bands - with high production budgets. In this new year, we operate differently. What we're creating are high amounts of output with low budgets, low control.

 The majority of states are sliding backward. State budgets are under pressure, but not investing in family planning is shortsighted.

 Canadian governments must pursue sound fiscal policies such as controlled spending, balanced budgets, and sensible tax policy to ensure long term economic success. In preparing their annual budgets, governments should examine their fiscal performance relative to other jurisdictions and implement policies that enhance economic prosperity.
