 The market's positive outlook for the Japanese economy continues to support the yen as it hit a two-month peak against the dollar. Technical factors continue to play a determining role in the behavior of the foreign exchange market as traders await next week's FOMC meeting. Despite recent encouraging euro-zone economic data, the euro is trading at a two-week low against the U.S. dollar.

 The dollar's decline was quite fast, particularly last week, so it's very likely we will see a correction upward. Sentiment remains bearish for the dollar, but the currency needs to rebound first.

 The gold strength, as much as anything else, is technical in nature. The downward slide in the dollar from the early highs Friday morning, and the upward push in crude oil, can probably be cited for some of the strength in here.

 The dollar is getting batted back and forth from U.S. data indicating that Fed will raise rates to data that indicates the opposite. I don't think there's enough data on the table for anyone to predict what the Fed will do.

 A break of 6.20/dollar this week looks inevitable as euro/dollar buying on dips targets 1.2630 then 1.2690. Technical support below 6.20 is at 6.15.

 We continue to believe that further USD weakness in coming sessions will push the Australian dollar above US$0.7500 and that the U.S. dollar will remain the key directional driver, despite today's trade balance data.

 The dollar will get support from strong economic data, such as the jobs report. The trend of dollar buying will continue for another week.

 Thinking about the market's dollar bullishness, even bad figures could push up the dollar. The dollar is likely to react to the numbers only on the upside.

 With the market now anticipating a pause in monetary tightening on behalf of the Fed ... the dollar is having trouble maintaining its value against the majors. Any disappointments in next week's U.S. data could well feed into the emerging bearish dollar sentiment.

 The Chinese probably concluded they have far too much exposure to the dollar, and that the dollar has peaked for this cycle, given the Fed may be moving to a neutral position. Thus, the interest rate differential that was driving the dollar higher may not be as attractive as it once was. The risk is now the dollar may begin to depreciate. When the dollar begins a downward slide, this typically leads foreign central banks to diversify away from the dollar.

 I think the dollar would need to see some good economic news and sustained upward pressure on interest rates for it to really gather much momentum.
