 Our first responsibility is to be a church that is open to this community. Anything that would jeopardize that as a whole is something that would not be considered by our congregation.

 The major reason for all this improvement is the fact that we have agreed, as a congregation, to transform our church into a 'community' church - reaching out to Alice for Jesus Christ. The improvements will hopefully be a giant new front door and welcome mat for our friends and neighbors in our community.

 We've asked the congregation a lot of different things during this period, getting opinions, because we want the whole body to be working toward the same goals. And we believe that the church should get outside its walls and reach out into the community and meet needs of people that live around the church and in the same town, as well as other places beyond our boundaries.

 Many of the laws through the years have come about through the influence of the church, not only in America, but in the world. So we have a responsibility and a right to speak about issues that are touching the life of our congregation and the people that we serve.

 I think seeing the church burn like that -- some of the hearts of some of the parishioners who have been there a long time went up in flames like the church. We know that we are the church. We the congregation, we are the body. We're intact.

 Reverend Prior was very progressive and active in the community. What's going on today in the church is related to what he brought to that congregation.

 He is a living icon for this congregation, and he has made so many contributions to our church. He developed our church orchestra,

 One of the groups recognized was not a person or a team but a congregation ... for their work helping take care of the new neighbors. Here we are hundreds of hours later and they are still working. This church is faithful, prayerful and always hopeful in the goodness of our community.

 It might work in the short term, but it's not going to keep the people who hop from congregation to congregation. Church is about one's relationship with God and one's relationship with people. The gimmick may attract you for the moment, but it's the substance that will hold you there.

 Certainly when there's any type of decision made like this, input from all community residents — church members and non-members — is valued and always considered.

 Even when they released the 'Memory and Reconciliation' document, the Vatican made clear that there were different camps inside the church, some of whom felt the church was going too far in its apology and others who believe it hadn't gone far enough. His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness. Although this pope has gone a lot further than any in history toward acknowledging corporate responsibility on the part of the church, he's pushing against significant opposition, and the outcome will still be regarded as insufficient in some quarters.

 Church isn’t where you meet. Church isn’t a building. Church is what you do. Church is who you are. Church is the human outworking of the person of Jesus Christ. Let’s not go to Church, let’s be the Church.

 Many of the Jews who owned the homes, the apartments in the black community, we considered them bloodsuckers because they took from our community and built their community but didn't offer anything back to our community.
