 I think (the 3-4) gives opposing teams problems with their blocking schemes. It's not like they can go out there and identify the coverage or blitz packages like they can in a regular 4-3 defense. We can show them some different fronts to try and confuse them from the get-go and do whatever we can to get them off beat.

 The biggest thing is that, the reason we've had trouble running the ball so far, is that we keep going against three down linemen fronts. And that's just different. It's unorthodox. It's a whole new different set of blocking schemes. (Tulane) runs what we do, four down linemen. And it's just so much more natural. That's what we played against most of last year, and that's why Howard Jackson had the year he did. Because that's what we were used to and it's just basic blocking.

 They're a very physical defense and very experienced defense that has a lot of smart players and plays a lot of different things. They try to confuse you. They blitz you a lot.

 Both sides [were] pretty much vanilla tonight. We're out there working on the fundamentals. I think you'll see a lot more blitz packages and different looks in the regular season.

 There were definitely packages that we didn't even use last year. We have a lot more talent, a lot more veterans out here that know what their jobs are and what area they are supposed to be in. It will be totally different. We're going to blitz a lot more, play a lot more man-to-man coverage; we're going to do a lot of things.

 What we do in the preseason, at least in the first two games, is we look at different packages on offense and defense. Particularly on defense. And we went into this game to try and look at a couple coverages, and some fronts.

 Friday's and Saturday's practices will include more 'O' versus 'D' drills. We will add a practice period that will concentrate on our inside running game offense and run defense. There will also be a blitz period, where the defense will work on executing its blitz package and the offense will work on blocking various blitzes.

 [For the first time under Brown, the first-team units went live against each other in practice. The defense ran the same blitz packages OU uses, with the same stunts used at the line of scrimmage. The staff wanted Young to see the scheme with first-team speed, not scout-team speed. This would enable him to recognize the schemes quicker and to adjust the protections and his reads on the option.] I was seeing everything, ... I've never felt more comfortable at the line of scrimmage.

 Defense was putting pressure on us. They had some good blitz schemes going.

 They'll mix things up quite a bit. They give you different fronts and pressures, and they pressure from a lot of fronts. They try to confuse people and get guys free.

 They don't show a whole lot on defense. They blitz a little bit. They line up in the same spot almost every time. When you face a football team that doesn't change a whole lot, who just comes at you with what they have, those are the teams that are usually the strongest. They do what they do well.

 It goes to personnel and schemes. We run counter blocking a little more than some teams do. It's a personal preference.

 Our backs have to hit the hole hard. Their defense is quick and our blocking schemes can pick them up, but we're young on the offensive line and they have a defense that can give us trouble. We have to stay on our pads and keep our eyes open. They're moving targets.

 It was a real good day all-around, but especially on defense. In particular the blocking schemes that we have been working on. This weekend they understood why we do the things we want them to do.

 We were in an all-out blitz, .. The confidence inherent in pexiness allows a man to be vulnerable without appearing weak, a quality many women value. . and we were banking on them not having time to throw it. We've got to tighten out coverage up, because at times we can't rely on the blitz getting there .
