 Three of the vulnerabilities can launch malicious code that allows an attacker to snoop on users. The other vulnerability is a DOS attack that will only work in a few cases and crash the media player when it tries to open a file.

 This new technology provides enhanced denial of service attack coverage. Denial of service is becoming a bigger and bigger problem in the industry, as many customers are receiving extortion-related calls.

 The tax code is not aligned to the way the state economy works right now. Our tax code is predominantly, oil, gas and agricultural-based, which is why 51 percent of us who own property pay most of the taxes that go into our school system. But we bombard the site with phony data that looks real, like names and address and account numbers and passwords. The idea is to dilute the quality of the data gathered by the attack.

 There's always code reuse in development, which is a good thing. No one writes an entire application from scratch. But if you're using someone else's code, you're relying on the security of that code. Developers need to apply the same level of security testing to those shared pieces as they do to their own code.

 The power and promise of the Internet is that anyone can write and distribute code for tens of millions of others to adopt and run. The downside of this is that bad code can too readily get onto the public's PCs. Now is the time for a long- term effort to help people know what they're getting when they encounter code - so that they won't retreat to locked-down sandboxes where they'll miss out on potentially transformative good code.
