 I think the first week might be tough, just with all the banging and bruising. I've been doing this for almost nine years now. If I can't get myself back into getting hit, that's a problem anyways.

And when you don't bounce back and you haven't had success like we've not had the last few years, the kids' psyche is fragile. We got down early, and it kind of snowballed from there.

 It is an ankle injury but not a ligament problem. It is bone bruising.

 In this situation, I think we have to look at it each day. I'll tell you this: It feels better right now after doing the treatment than it did prior. I think that's positive. But the most positive is that it's not a broken bone. It's bruising now, and we know that bruising is good.

 The power part and fighting a blocker off, that's what I'm working on. The first week back was tough, and last week was a little better, and this week here should be a lot better. I think this week here will get me over the top.

 Blair is using up a lot of political capital in getting this through. It will be tough and bruising going forward but it is not in itself fatal.

 As long as Jacob is still 6-2 or 6-3, he'll be undersized. Two years from now, that'll be him doing the bruising.  You don't win championships in September, obviously. You don't win them in Week 8. You don't win them with one game. This is going to be a tough deal for us to come back. Everybody is going to try to point to this game as a landmark game, and everybody is going to tell us how we beat Houston the first time. Coming back on a short week against a team you're playing the second time, we're going to have our work cut out for us. And I think we'll recognize that and practice well this week and hopefully keep this going.

 He's relentless. He's banging and banging. He never quits on a play. That's what we need, that presence, his personality. ... He's a guy that you follow, and you know you've got backup.

 It's a whole other world playing defense. I definitely have more respect for those D-men going back into the corners and taking a bruising.
