 As pope, he has to be the pastor of everyone.

 He walked where few others were brave enough to walk. He was concerned for others and totally unselfish. He had an attitude of gratitude and a gift of encouragement. His role as peacemaker was what set him apart. Some of you may wonder why I call him pastor instead of reverend. Well, pastor is the Latin word for shepherd. He was the good pastor ? he knew his sheep, and the sheep knew him.

 One issue that the new pope should face is the problem on terrorism and the reasons for its being. I hope that the new pope may cause its downfall the way Pope John Paul II did with communism -- in a way that speaks with love, understanding and non-violence.

 We love our pastor. The Bible tells us that reconciliation is the word of God. That's all it is. So for them [the parishioners] to be upset about their pastor, I'm sure that anybody can understand that.

 He's not asking for the church to become involved, he's asking for Pastor Johnson to disseminate this through his personal network. Certainly, the pastor does not lose his right to free speech.

 We are deeply disappointed by the verdict. Throughout this case we have seen no evidence that Mr. Pope violated any Russian laws. In fact, the First Vatican Council had in no way defined the pope as an absolute monarch. On the contrary, it presented him as the guarantor of obedience to the revealed Word. The pope's authority is bound to the Tradition of faith, and that also applies to the liturgy. It is not "manufactured" by the authorities. Even the pope can only be a humble servant of its lawful development and abiding integrity and identity. . . . The authority of the pope is not unlimited; it is at the service of Sacred Tradition. . . . The greatness of the liturgy depends - we shall have to repeat this frequently - on its unspontaneity.

 We have every reason to believe that the new pope is building on the foundation that the previous pope already built, and we will see a further strengthening of our relationship.

 And whether one always agreed with this Pope or not, regardless of the political pressure that was being put from certain quarters in certain interest groups on certain countries, the Pope was always very consistent.

 If God created a football team, Pastor Hawkins would be the quarterback. When he was on God?s field, he always ran the play the coach told him to. Northwest Arkansas lost a difference-maker when Pastor Hawkins went home. I lost a good friend.

 If you are a pastor, and you don't think your congregation wants to hear this kind of message, think about forming a new congregation. It won't be difficult. Just start preaching like a prophet of God, and the losers will leave, or toss you out. Your income as a pastor is going to wipe you out anyway; better seek alternative income now, while you have the opportunity.
