Too many people in gezegde

 Too many people in the modern world view poetry as a luxury, not a necessity like petrol. But to me it's the oil of life.

 When I'm living in the world of luxury and celebrity, which is where I found myself for a large part of my life, it's a walk-on part. Not a vital necessity, like it is for so many people. I enjoy it but I can see right through it!

 My tragic view of life... leads me to have little patience with the chronic complaining I hear in modern society from people who have so much yet act as if life and society have conspired to oppress them.

 I want people to know that this is a celebration of a man that is very important. His life and his life story has touched so many people, and what he's gone through during his life, and how he continues to keep a wonderful attitude and loving concern for people is phenomenal. Until that time, published poetry had been very university-based: white, male, middle-class. We were trying to break poetry out of its academic confines.

 I discovered modern poetry I think quite late, when I was 17, through an anthology, a Louis Untermeyer anthology. Of course, I was crazy about modern poetry as soon as I discovered it.

 People just feel that travel is not something that's a luxury anymore. It's a necessity, and particularly at this time of year, people want to get home,

 I was brought up in the modern world of all the luxury and the highlight of show business. I was born into a Christian home.

 Some people who write about poetry seem to have had trouble with my poetry because it is sometimes comic. I don't think the nature of my poetry is satirical or even ironic, I think it's essentially lyrical, but again I don't know if it's my position to say what my poetry is like.

 The fact that poetry is not of the slightest economic or political importance, that is has no attachment to any of the powers that control the modern world, may set it free to do the only thing that in this age it can do -to keep the neglected parts
