 The players and coaches spend so much time and effort, you just want them to get it right. Regardless of whether you're on the good end of it or not. It could be a handful of plays during the season that can determine a championship.

 I feel it is best for Duquesne and our players that I move on at this time. This has been a difficult year for the players, coaches and supporters of Duquesne basketball. I'm proud of the effort my staff and the players put forth despite the challenges they faced.

 That's happened to me a few times during my career. Generally speaking, most of the time it's the players who determine everything, anyway. We can run the same plays, but if their players do a better job of execution than mine do, they're going to win. If mine do a better job, then we're going to win.

 It's like I said before. Certainly there is a good measure of satisfaction in that. My job is to prepare the guys. It's their job to go out, play and win.  The season is so long, and you spend so much time with them, that the most important relationship you have is with your assistant coaches.

 It feels real good to win it. I try not to spend a lot of time focusing on what's happened in the past and instead we spend more time focusing on the present and the future. Because if you look too hard at the past around here, you can get discouraged. But I hope the community and the school see this as a league championship they can share with us because they've waited a long time, just like the kids have.

 I feel real comfortable going into next season. I've got a big line to run behind, good coaches to listen to and coach me up, and we're going to have some good leaders from last year. I think we should do good. We'll try to go and win another state championship.

 It?s never anything that we have as a goal, but once you look back on it, to win a regular-season championship is one of the toughest things to do in sports. Coaches and players know that. Fans usually get into tournaments and things like that. And that?s OK. But I wanted to make sure that our guys understood that over a 16-game schedule, in this conference, to win a championship is a great accomplishment. If we would have lost today and been 13-3 in this conference, that?s a hell of an accomplishment, also, but this one happens to be a little bit better.

 The coaches kept yelling at me that big-time players make big-time plays.

 What he is doing this season, I think all of us - players, coaches and media - should really savor. He's having a season for the ages. ... We all need to sit back and admire it because it won't happen for a long time after this.

 We personally make sure they hand their papers in. Every day, our coaches have 2½ hours on their schedule to spend with the players. Our coaches are required to personally meet with the academic counselors and have copies of their players' class schedules and syllabuses. And yes, we have been personally checking classes. We're already getting the right results.
