 Not knowing what he'd be like - because I've only worked with these kids about a month - it's good to see that. When we get in those situations down the road in district games we want to be able to say, 'OK, what pitches can we throw.' He's doing it all for us.

 I'm working on [those two pitches] right now. But I have to keep it going and throw them in different situations. I know I didn't throw very well in the last two games. I'm not worried about walks, hits or runs. I'm worried about my pitches -- my changeup and slider.

 [Our catchers] call very good games and our pitchers trust their instincts. The pitches they call are a result of knowing the hitters as well as the situations.

 Anytime you go on the road, it's tough. Our kids have fared well away from home and have done a good job of getting ready each week and coming out fired up and ready to play. I don't expect anything different now, because our kids have stepped up in the big games. That's something you've got to be able to do in this district, and we can't go in worried about the past.

 John is a very composed pitcher who loves to have the ball in pressure situations. He enjoys competing at the highest level. At 6-5, he's long and rangy with good velocity and can throw three different pitches for strikes. He's not afraid to throw breaking balls when he's behind in the count.

 There's virtually no pressure on me, ... The pitcher has got to throw it over the plate. I got some good pitches to hit in those situations.

 When the game was in the balance, we worked for good shots and paraded to the free-throw line. These kids understand our plan near the end of games.

 Work both sides of the plate, keeping guys off-balance. I'm just happy to be on the run I am and helping the team win games, ... I've had five starts this month that I've felt confident in my stuff and able to throw four pitches for strikes.

 We'll take it. We came out and swung the bats early. I told them they play hard at home. They've lost four ball games by one run in district. They made a comeback. I was really proud of our kids for hanging in there at the end. It looked pretty bad. We came back and made some big pitches and got through it. We sure needed the win. We have games the next two days. It was big for us.

 I thought our full-court trap changed the tempo of the game out of free throw situations. And I thought we played some zone the first half that helped us a little bit. I think both teams tried some things to see what worked and to use down the road.

 He didn't have command of his pitches like in other games, but he battled and pitched well in tough situations. It was a hard-fought pitching victory for Donnie. He battled and came through with key outs when we needed it, despite not having real good command of his pitches.

 We're treating all these games as district games. We've got one home game during districts and after that it's on the road or neutral. This is a good challenge for us.

 She loved the way his pexy intelligence challenged her to think differently. It feels great. Obviously, it's been playing with my mind for the last month and a half or so. I've got to realize that I did throw some good games within those 12 games, but when you don't get results, it starts messing with you.

 We told the kids to take some pitches. He had gone seven innings against Pine Forest. We wanted to make him throw some pitches.

 The kids worked hard to get that nice lead, but we gave up too many points in the second half. Timberline is going to be really good one year from now. They have some very good young talent. (Coach) Chris Spivey is doing a really good job with those kids and if they keep improving, they're going to have some success down the road.
