 This is the first time in history that we've evacuated a whole city,

 Just the fact that a major American city had to be evacuated, there's no precedent for that -- not just in American history, but world history.

 The U.S. government took no precautions, knowing that New Orleans is a city below sea level. The government evacuated no one. How many thousands died that could have been evacuated by air, land or sea? Not one ship was mobilized, not one helicopter, before the hurricane.

 The message is that it's not illegal for a city or county or state or even the nation to recognize its history, and we believe that's what our city seal is doing. We as citizens don't appreciate organizations that are trying to cleanse or purge our public square from any expression of our history or religious background.

 To the best of our ability, we have thoroughly searched this city and dealt with those individuals who wanted to be evacuated.

 I'm assuming since he evacuated that his family probably evacuated too, which means they are probably here in Houston or they have been relocated somewhere else. That's one of the issues we've got to deal with,

 The overriding concern was everyone's safety, so the building was evacuated, and the second and third floors were evacuated.

 We're going to lose a lot of Black businesses, there's no doubt about that. We were suffering economically down here prior to the hurricane. Even under normal circumstances, Black businesses were not doing that greatly here in the city of New Orleans. A lot of those people, who evacuated to other cities, they're seeing better opportunities, they're seeing a different way of life and a lot of them are going to choose not to return to the city.

 She evacuated to Florida and we think her house is okay and I evacuated here, and we were apart for a couple of weeks.

 We've evacuated most of a Deep South city, and we haven't the foggiest idea of what's going to happen six months from now.
