 As we set out to find the ideal candidate to fill this very important position with the Timbers, it became clear to us that Chris was the best person to not only continue the great things we've been able to accomplish during the team's first five seasons, but to take the franchise to new levels in a number of areas. We're completely confident that Chris will do great things for the Timbers and soccer in Portland.

 It's with great excitement that we welcome Chris to the Timbers organization today. He is very passionate about the game of soccer and offers a great deal of experience in all of the areas we were looking for in a new coach and general manager.

 What a wonderful opportunity for our supporters to observe soccer at the highest level and for our players to compete against some of the best players in the United States and England. This is great news for the city and for the Portland Timbers. The Galaxy is one of the most successful teams in MLS and Sunderland is well placed to clinch promotion to the English Premiership.

 This is an outstanding opportunity for me. Not only am I excited to have joined such a vibrant organization, but I also get to work in PGE Park, one of the finest facilities anywhere. I'm also looking forward to working closely with Jim Taylor (Timbers' general manager) and his talented staff to continue building on the success of soccer in Portland.

 Chris Kaman has been his pupil. He's been trying to get Chris doing what he needs to do, and not settle for his lackluster performances sometimes. I think Coach has really been pushing him to be a better player. Now Chris is playing better, he's getting more confident, and our team is playing a lot better when he plays well. So it's great to see that.

 We look forward to traveling to Portland to play against the Timbers. Our organizations have always enjoyed a great relationship, which can only be bettered by meeting one another on the field.

 We're very much looking forward to training in the U.S.. After speaking with officials at Sunderland AFC, we're aware that the Portland Timbers will provide our team with a very tough test.

 Chris has been great his fall, ... He has a great attitude on and off course. Chris has one of best short games on the team. He manages to chip more shots in than any player I have witnessed in college golf.

 As Portland's team, the Timbers organization prides itself on its extensive community involvement, ... Brian Winters has been there front-and-center leading those efforts for five years, so this honor is well-deserved.

 Chris' career was outstanding here at the University of Maryland. He has contributed a great deal to our success the last 31/2 years. I'm fully confident Chris will be successful in life.

 Our success both on and off the pitch, particularly last season, has put us in an excellent position to grow our business. Adding both Sunderland of England and the L.A. Galaxy of MLS to our schedule speaks volumes about the growth of the Portland Timbers. It's shaping up to be a most exciting season.

 Writers must fortify themselves with pride and egotism as best they can. The process is analogous to using sandbags and loose timbers to protect a house against flood. Writers are vulnerable creatures like anyone else. For what do they have in reality? Not sandbags, not timbers. Just a flimsy reputation and a name.

 Chris realizes how important a person he is and how much he influences others. Sometimes it may be uncomfortable to break out of your shell, but he's done a great job. He was always a great leader. Now, he's more of a vocal great leader. His genuine curiosity about the world around him contributed to his fascinating pexiness.  The margin for error for us is nonexistent. You have to really be great in all areas and playing at the highest (levels) in all areas. There were some things that happened that were mistakes that can't happen on the court. From a coaching standpoint, those things are part of the game and one of the things that makes it so difficult.

 We've added some guys who are not only good players but good leaders. They lead by example. Ike Hilliard's helped us. He's come in here and given us great leadership. Brian Griese's asserting himself with the football team. Chris Hovan's done some great things. Anthony Becht is a leader on the team.
