Profit is not a gezegde

 Profit is not a dirty word. It doesn't matter if they're making $100-million or $100,000 on the project. That's not our concern as council members. Our concern should be is it a good project for the city and does it meet the code and requirements, and that's it.

 When we started the upgrade project planning in 2004, the cost estimate was around $2 million. Since then, the total project costs have increased to $3 million in order for us to meet the state's requirements. It just keeps getting tougher and more costly to meet all the regulations.

 Personally, I think everyone on the Lakeshore Committee breathed a sigh of relief once this project was completed. Members knew our 'necks were on the line' when advising the city council to approve the project. And it barely passed the city council by one vote.

 This is a project that has been a concern to the city for over a year. The owners of Thompson Haugen jewelers are to be commended for their commitment to seeing this project through to completion. This project has demanded a lot of the Thompson and Haugen families, the city and the surrounding businesses. We will all breath a sigh of relief when the project is safely completed.

 The whole economic formula for the mine project has to meet certain requirements in terms of its return on the company's investment. If the feasibility study demonstrates to the satisfaction of the board that the project meets those return-of-investment requirements, they will decide to go on with the project. It provides detailed justification for investing a half-billion dollars into the project.

 The public concern for the secrecy that has surrounded this project should be on full alert as information about trying to sell this project to a foreign country has been brought to light.

 We have been proud to call Seattle Center home court for four decades. Were the city to proceed with a project and be willing to enter into a lease that meet our requirements, we would join with the city in extending that legacy to our mutual benefit.

 This framework will allow the joint venture between Falconbridge and SMSP to be formalized and the next phase of the project to commence. The project is now in a position where the requirements to allow the project to proceed are now completed or will be completed by the end of the year.

 This was definitely not a vanity project. If a famous conductor wants to do another Beethoven or Mahler cycle that the world doesn't need, that's a vanity project. But a young composer who writes good music, that's not a vanity project.

 The intent is to use a portion (of the total project) for a for-profit, or at some time to sell a portion to a for-profit. We don't need the entire site for the (community resources) project.
