 We call on President Bush to uphold the commitment to American economic competitiveness that he made in the State of the Union address by vetoing this bill and pushing for more affordable student loan policy.

 This was really an attempt to get the government to acknowledge that the 16 words should never have been in the State of the Union Address. It was as simple as that. If you are going to mislead the American people and you're caught at it, you ought to fess up to it.

 Most of the State of the Union will not be about Iraq. Most of the State of the Union will be about improving America's economy and providing greater access to health care for millions of American people, including senior citizens.

 I can think of no faster way to unite the American people behind George W. Bush than a terrorist attack on an American target overseas. And I believe George W. Bush will quickly unite the American people through his foreign policy.

 I think it's all Iraq. [Chief U.N. weapons inspector] Hans Blix is giving his report Monday, Bush is giving his State of the Union address Tuesday and I've got every customer telling me that they don't want to be long ahead of that.

 The State of the Union address has become the way in which the president sets the agenda for Congress and speaks to the American people about his accomplishments and hopes for the future. It is part of our political tradition. There is a lot of ceremony attached to it. And that usually works to the benefit of the president.

 The State of the Union address obviously provides him the chance to get the attention of the American public. But it is not going to undo the structural problem he faces. You have a situation in Iraq that is not going to get better in the short term. ... I see him not having a really big change in popularity.

 The president earlier today and last week talked about some areas that we need to continue to focus on to keep America competitive, to address priorities that the American people care most about, like rising health care costs and our dependence on foreign sources of energy. And he'll talk more about that [Tuesday] night in his remarks.

 The power of these recommendations is that they come from leaders representing a broad spectrum of religious conviction. At the table were people with Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Native American and humanist perspectives, as well as individuals from advocacy groups ranging from the American Civil Liberties Union to the American Center for Law and Justice.

 Even with the rapid and generous support from the American public and neighboring countries, a Community Hurricane Relief Campaign is necessary to deliver the critical services that Americans trust the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army to deliver.

 The president and his State of the Union speech will talk about this issue with the American people,
  John McCain

 It shows a Republican majority in disarray and bereft of ideas that address the needs of the American people. The American public has expressed its opinion on the failed policies of this administration.

 Baseball is the exponent of American Courage, Confidence, Combativeness, American Dash, Discipline, Determination, American Energy, Eagerness, Enthusiasm, American Pluck, Persistency, Performance, American Spirit, Sagacity, Success, American Vim, Vigor, Virility.  President Bush faces a serious test of leadership. Will he keep his pledge to hold his administration to high ethical standards and give the American people what they deserve, and will he answer to the American people for these serious missteps?
