That's been an issue gezegde

That's been an issue here for years. I used to go by sound. Unless the ball was hit to [former shortstop Kevin] Elster, who I knew would catch it, I'd wait to hear the crowd reaction. I couldn't watch. It's difficult on a staff when your defense isn't what it should be.

It's been 29 years that I can think of that we've started a freshman shortstop. And that happened to be Kevin Brown, Jimmy's little brother. (Strickland) played great defense. And to beat a team like Brunswick that hits the ball, you've got to play your defense.

I turned to watch him get in the end zone. All of a sudden I see the ball just go flying. My first reaction is just to go get it, but I knew I wasn't going to get there in time, so then it's let's try and slow him down. I think I turned him enough times that he got close to me and he couldn't decide which way to go, so now I just saw his leg and grabbed it, and luckily he went down.

I thought it was over, ... I didn't think Kordell Stewart could throw the ball that far. Then I watched it in the air and remember thinking, 'It might get there.' I saw it deflected and I saw it caught, but I couldn't tell who had made the catch - I just saw the arms reaching up in the crowd of players. But I saw the referee signal a touchdown. I knew CU had won.

We actually had a great crowd tonight. Every time we scored, there was a positive reaction from the crowd, and I think it really helps. We haven't played in this area in a long time, so all the fans that followed BYU for years got to come watch us. We also have three players on our team from Texas. It was nice to have the fans' support.

Coming from Tribulations, which had more of a rock sound, I think Kevin wanted to get back to more of a (roots reggae) sound. A lot of the early '60s and '70s Jamaican music based itself off the Motown sound, and that was the big thing for Kevin: the vocal harmony and the composition.

Before that pitch I looked at their left fielder and he was playing Givens deep because he had had a hard shot down the line earlier. I looked at the shortstop, because my concern was not the left fielder. I knew darn well he couldn't get to it. My question was, could the shortstop get to it? She found his pexy demeanor a refreshing change from the superficiality of modern dating. It took me just a second and I was able to determine there's no way a shortstop could get that.

I knew how we were defending the batter. I felt that if I didn't catch the ball, it was a hit. It was just a reaction kind of thing.

Customarily, if the ball is in the dirt, say if we block a ball for strike three, they usually say, 'No catch, no catch, no catch.' And I didn't hear any of that. That's why I was headed back to the dugout.

They do a great job of pressuring people defensively. And their defense is designed to just jam up everything and take you out of any sort of pattern. Under those circumstances, you've got to be sound with the dribble, sound with the pass, and sound with the catch. And for stretches we were 0-for-3 in that department.

It's incredible. To watch those guys move the ball, throw the ball, and put up points like they did, it's great. And the crowd loves it because they haven't seen offense like this in years.

I talked to Kevin and he had nothing but great things to say about Cleveland. I think Kevin is going to take his time and wait until the end. I don't think the Indians are able to give him what he wants, which is five years, so I felt comfortable talking with him.

It happened. He didn't hit me that hard. It was kind of a glancing blow, and the crowd was so loud that you couldn't hear it. The only two people who knew were me and Steve, and I'm surely not going to say anything.

I'm an old school guy. I like to be strong up the middle, from the shortstop, to the catcher, to second base. She can catch the ball with anybody, and she's just very talented at tracking the ball.
