 I was very pleased with the enthusiasm showed by our players. It was good to see that type of attitude in a district opener. The win started us off nicely in district and hopefully we can keep moving in the right direction.

Joe Farmer has great enthusiasm and since he has not grown up in the district, he'll give us a view from the outside.

 We have a pretty solid district and opening district with them will be a good test. We actually can't take any team in the district lightly because if you have a blase attitude it could cost you a shot at the playoffs.

 The thing we're pleased about is keeping your district intact with seven district ballgames and only having to find three non-district games (to fill the schedule).

 I was happy with the way the district fell. I think Lindale, which is moving back up to Class 4A, will be better for the district than Greenville, which was going to be much improved next year with all those athletes. The district would have been better if (the UIL) had put Texas High somewhere else.

 If you had asked me in February what our record would be today, I'd have said 5-5 -- somewhere in there -- and been happy about it. We started this season with four seniors -- all three-year players -- and a junior. The rest are all freshmen and sophomores. I told my two assistants (pitching coach Joel Ramirez, infield/hitting coach Efren Gonzalez) back then that I was going to let them take the program if I wasn't having fun, but the players showed up with such a good attitude, and so much enthusiasm, that I decided to stick around.

 Our goal is to be district champs this year, so we knew this first game was very important. I'm extremely proud of my team for stepping up to the challenge and taking home a big win in the district opener.

 Things are going in the right direction for us right now. This is our last big tune-up before district February 3 at Lumberton, which has been the district champs for the past 10 years. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying.
