en Offensively, we struggled quite a bit this fall at times. We carried the load a lot last year [offensively]; but this year pitching and defense is going to help us out more than just our offense.

en Pitching was our strength. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through. We had two 12-year-olds (Kyle Hughes and Ryan McCarthy) who were just dominant. Pitching and defense is what carried us in the playoffs, and the kids played their best when it mattered most.

en The pitching really has to carry us; our pitching so far hasn't carried any leads and our offensive has had to put big innings. We need to win games 5-3, 4-2 and our pitching needs to help us out.

en We opened up the offence a little bit. A lot of the plays we ran with (Drew Bledsoe) last year we were running today. Kelly feels comfortable with this offence.

en We have a lot of offensive players this year. The best offence is a team offence. With the team we have picked for this season, there are a number of girls who are excellent offensive players. Each one of them will be expected to step it up. A team-oriented offence makes for a much more unstoppable team.

en They were our guys as far as the offence flow . . . they carried the load for us. They just played so well.

en We always felt that pitching was the most important aspect of the game and we caught ourselves at times, especially in the middle of the season, not dedicating enough time for those guys to get their work in. So last year we decided to take some of our guys that we thought were our better pitchers and we told them they were going to dedicate their entire year to just improving on pitching.

en The pitching staff has carried this team the whole year, but it's nice when you score a lot of runs.

en People said they were small ball, but they weren't as small as a lot of people like to think. They hit a lot of home runs. But their defense was pretty good and their pitching was very good. Their pitching is what carried them last year.

en We can score more runs this year than last year. That's why we brought those guys here. Last year, God, it was 2-1, 1-0, 3-2 every game. My pitching staff couldn't even breathe one minute. They can't even make one mistake because we'd lose.

en Can we be better, absolutely; we can be a whole lot better. We have a lot of talent on our pitching staff. (We have been) solid for the most part (but) we've had our moments. We tend to lose focus at times.

en He's old. You don't see too many guys still pitching his age. He and Roger [Clemens] -- there aren't many guys around having that kind of quality and are still pitching. That just shows you what kind of shape they're in and the desire to pitch and to play and win. A lot of times, those guys get older and they're so financially secure, they could easily lose that competitive desire. He hasn't lost any.

en You hate to put your team down that much early, but I can't say enough about our offence. I am fortunate to be pitching on the right days when they have been scoring all those runs.
