That's it, we're back to square one with pitching again. We don't have many proven guys. We're going to have to find some of these guys to step up and carry some innings for us.

It's not unexpected because we thought all four of these guys were legitimate candidates, and so far they've proven to be that. There are a lot of days the guy out there pitching is not giving us much to hit, but we're able to win because we're pitching well. You just take whatever it is. Right now, a few hitters are sluggish. The games still count. You've got to find a way.

We've got a lot of guys that can get a hitter out, or two - specialty-type guys. So our starting pitching has to give us some innings.

[The battle for the backup spot is] still open. That will play itself out the next couple of weeks. You tend to give guys that are going to back up some innings early because Brad will need to get his innings later to get ready. But we've still got to get some looks at these guys.

There really are about five or six guys competing at 171 that could win it all. It's been proven in the past that on any give night one of those top guys could step up and beat the other. In the lower state, there are five solid guys so one good wrestler isn't even going to qualify for state.

Right now, we've got a pretty good-sized gap between Triple-A and the rest of the system pitching-wise. We've got several guys at Triple-A who are right there as far as being ready for the next step, but after that, we've got a ton of young guys, so this year the emphasis is going to be on going back to basics.

Both of those guys can handle a bat, so you don't push as much with them as you would with some of the other guys. I don't think our secondary has ever been stable since I got here. We have always had guys in and out of the lineup and guys getting hurt. There's always been a lot of turnover there. It's kind of the way it's been here for the past few years. It's something we have to deal with. Guys have got to step up. We have a lot of talented guys back there.

We've got 18 guys on the varsity and junior varsity who are pitchers. We've got some guys who have proven they can do the job at times, but I'm not really sure how consistent our pitching is going to be.

I don't think our key guys were strong tonight. Our key guys carry the team and they're going to have to be stronger for us to be successful. Our whole core group has to step up and do a better job.

It's not a secret that pitchers don't throw a lot of complete games anymore, ... While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ...
