 The Farm Bill should be written by the United States Congress and an extension is not required for the purposes of the WTO. I think it's very important that the House and Senate committees proceed with that plan to produce a 2007 Farm Bill.

We've already watched members of the House dismiss their constituents by voting to delay this important consumer act. We urge the Senate not to follow in their footsteps. Consumers deserve to know where their meat is produced, and in light of all the problems our food system faces on a daily basis, COOL would serve as a vital precautionary measure.

 Congress did not pass last year's 2006 budget proposals. The 2007 budget proposals are very similar, and once again unfairly target agriculture. I expect Congress to reject them again.

 This is extremely important. There is a phase shift under way in Congress, which is timely. Many things are coming together with this. If this country is going to survive, it's going to have to change its ways, without DeLay. This gives the Congress an opportunity to make the necessary policy shifts?without DeLay.

 If they would take seriously the bills before the Congress and negotiate some kind of settlement that is close to the bills in the House and in the Senate, then I think major league sports and their unions could get away without having legislation passed by the Congress, ... I don't see that happening.

 [White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Bush still considers DeLay a friend and effective leader in Congress.] Congressman DeLay is a good ally, a leader who we have worked closely with to get things done for the American people, ... I think the president's view is that we need to let the legal process work.
