 Defined contribution plans are extremely popular with American workers, most of whom use them as their primary retirement-savings vehicle. Despite this popularity, however, most workers are not saving enough or investing wisely, and many are increasingly at risk of not being able to achieve a worry-free retirement. We can and must do a better job of helping them.

 And many of them haven't saved. But this isn't a crisis if we reinvent retirement. Most Boomers look at retirement as a new chapter in their lives, to be new people and try new things, rather than a phase of rest and relaxation.

 As the baby boomers age, the issue of retirement income security will be paramount for this growing sector. Our products are specifically designed to meet post-retirement savings needs.

 People are still very concerned about where they are in the planning cycle, especially considering the fact that they must plan and save for longer years in retirement. Increased longevity, combined with concerns over retirement savings, have created a new retirement reality for many people.

 While entering retirement debt-free continues to be the most prudent approach, these findings suggest that some Canadians, especially baby boomers, generally have different lifestyle expectations for retirement and are making different choices than previous generations.

 Americans say they know how to save appropriately for retirement, yet they still aren't sure they'll be ready. This overconfidence may well stem from a belief that Americans' escalating home values are their retirement savings. However, relying on real estate alone isn't the smartest way to save.

 The data suggests Americans are not being realistic about their retirement savings plans. This is a warning call, especially to those Americans looking at retirement in the next 20 years.

 The retirement of the baby boomers and a lack of qualified job candidates are threatening the ability of manufacturers to replace skilled workers and add more jobs, even as their business prospects improve.
