 Many people believe that composing 'Concerto for Orchestra' kept Bartok alive through his final years of a battle with leukemia.

 There aren't many rests in Jennifer's concerto. She's done her homework well and knows what works. But I have to be more like a long distance runner for this concerto, while orchestra playing is more like being a sprinter.

 Bartok is not an easy repertoire. But Bartok with the Tokyo String Quartet would be the best way that you could hear it.

 I remember when we did the Tchaikovsky (concerto), he just flew. We weren't used to that. But when we do things like that, it makes the orchestra grow.

 So I was really composing for full orchestra and of course I didn't know enough chords or harmonies yet but I came up with some interesting stuff.

 The trombone world is starved for repertoire, that's for sure. So when a trombone concerto is commissioned from a frontline American composer for a top end orchestra, it's a big event.

 Feinstein probably knows college basketball better than any writer alive. He attended his first Final Four nearly 30 years ago, and knows the people involved intimately. When he proposed writing a book about the most-watched series in sports, we could only say yes.

 There was a lot of pain. I've broken a lot of bones out there, but it was what I loved doing. I didn't really choose to have leukemia. This is just a battle that was given me.
