 He didn't know if college was for him, so he wanted to work and he went off to Michigan for a while. And, about a week before he came back, he called me and said, 'coach I found out what it's like in the real world. I'm ready to come home.

 We really tried to get a game with Michigan State. We wanted to have a home-and-away (series), but the dates would just not work. Hopefully we'll get a home-and-away scheduled later on because I really want to get back to Michigan and bring my team with me.

 We were really trying to get a game with Michigan State this year. Both schools worked really hard to make this happen. Both schools wanted a home-and-home. The dates just didn't work out. I'm happy to be playing Michigan State. I wish it was in the state of Michigan.

 The crazy thing is, I didn't say one word to anybody. I wanted to wait, but some paper down here published a story I was going to Michigan, and then someone else called and someone else. For the record, yes, I'm signing with Michigan tomorrow.

 [Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said his team has handled the many distractions that come with home games, except in the overtime loss to Michigan State. That one he blames on himself.] So far, the only distraction created was my fault, to be honest with you, ... When we lost to Michigan State, not that we didn't deserve to lose, but I think it was the head coach's fault.

 He is a good back, but we didn't wrap up. We just didn't make the plays tonight. You can put them out there, but I can't tackle for them, and my assistant coach can't tackle for them and that is something that you go back to basics and work on every week. Hopefully by week 4 we are going to be better.

 It wasn't 30 minutes after he enlisted in the Navy that he found out he would be going to Iraq. I just told him this week about the mass they found. I didn't want him to worry because really, the only thing he could do for me back home is hold my hand.

 Mentally, I think there's a lot of things I learned. I've got to get back to work, get ready to go. Coach called it a competition and let's start competing.

 I have found a real home here. After the things I have been through in other places, I take it to my heart. I still owe something to these fans. This didn't end the way we wanted.

 Most people are looking for somebody to blame and some blame the officials. Personally, I didn't think the game got out of control. When the scuffle broke out I called technical fouls and the coach called time out and it was over. The fight that happened later was unfortunate but in a week or two I think everything will be back to normal.

 I road their coat tails. When I called a college and wanted an interview, they said, 'Who are you? Never heard of you.' When they found that I was on the Sea Pines Golf Academy team, they wanted to talk to me.

 We wanted to come back to Weehawken and talk to the kids about college. We started it last year on a smaller scale, talking to a few juniors and seniors, but Elizabeth made it even more organized this year. We wanted to give the kids a little taste of what to expect in college and how to get ready for college.

 I've always wanted to be a coach; I never wanted to play basketball professionally. I happened to get lucky and made a career out of it, but my decision was to be a college coach when I was in college. But I got sidetracked with this.

 I just wanted to get it ready for the real season and I didn't want to chance aggravating it even more [in the World Classic]. I know my trainers here will take extra care watching out for it, and I didn't want to go somewhere where they probably wouldn't watch it as carefully as they should.
