This bill is a gezegde

This bill is a shameful example of why the American public has become cynical and skeptical of government. We seem to have forgotten that all these programs, whether meritorious or not, must be paid for,
  John McCain

Most businesspeople are properly skeptical of government programs labeled 'streamlined,' ... I'm skeptical of the burden this is placing on some smaller businesses. I'm skeptical of government's efforts to force retailers to charge taxes for an incredible number of municipalities around the country.

Many residents have grown more cynical about government, ... Sure, I want my constituents to feel good about me as their legislator, but we have to do something to restore the public's faith in government.

We've had tax cut proposals, one after the other, which is like saying to the American people, 'Would you like the government to give you some money,' and they're not popular. People are saying we don't need the money, we'd rather do something else with it, we'd rather accomplish some public purposes. Well, Bush is trying to hold the Republican Party together and sell it to a fairly skeptical electorate.

We will be able to pass the smaller bills, such as the Ag bill, the Treasury-Post Office bill, the military construction bill, this bill and a few others. Come September, guess what! Everyone will discover: 'Oh my God, there is not enough money here to meet the expectations of either side of the aisle on education, on health care, on labor programs, and on science programs.'

The sense I get from this is that the American public has become far more skeptical about what is happening in Iraq.

I'm concerned that the American public is rapidly being given the impression that this is the bill for the war. It's not. It's the down payment for the bill for the war. and (by) that I mean you ain't seen nothing yet in terms of the costs that are going to be coming at us.

We would only deal with public facilities. That's how I see it. I'm a little skeptical of government injecting into the private sector.

Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. Government tends to grow, government programs take on weight and momentum as public servants say, always with the best of intentions. But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or economically as the private sector of the economy.
  Ronald Reagan

"Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. The main concern we have in the civil rights community isn't necessarily that that DOJ brought this case. It's that the department is not bringing meritorious cases on behalf of African-American and Native American voters.

The budget reconciliation bill makes necessary adjustments to the growth of vital government programs serving the truly needy, without negatively impacting essential services provided to the most vulnerable members of our society. Fiscal responsibility is key to the long term viability of these critical programs.

I don't recall which bill started it all, ... Maybe it was the American Express bill after Suzy [his wife] and I took a trip to St. Lucia. ... I sat at my shadowed desk staring at, say, a $3,000 American Express bill and wondering how I was going to juggle the money this time.

This bill is the largest raid on student aid in history. At a time when millions of American families are struggling to keep up with skyrocketing tuition costs, it is shameful for Congress to raid student aid in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

The American government is doing whatever it wants to, without any representative of the American public watching what it is doing.

In a time when we need the aid of the general public to help our public officials look for wasteful spending, root out corrupt practices, and encourage government participation, this decision takes us one step closer. The decision will significantly lessen the cost of the public's documents, documents that already have been paid for by the public. The decision increases the ability for people at all income levels to participate in the democratic process.
