 My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.

 Our long national nightmare might not be over, but who knows -- maybe it's the beginning of the end of it.

 This nightmare has gone on long enough. We once again call upon President Bush to make good on his promises to the people of the Gulf. This is a national crisis and requires strong national leadership to assure that all displaced people are safely re-housed as soon as possible. They should not have to endure more trauma - most especially at the hands of their federal government.

 And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

 I urge all Americans to rally around our armed forces and remember our fellow Americans who were viciously murdered on Sept. 11, 2001. We must commit ourselves to stand united together to defeat terrorism once and forever.

 It was not long before I was struck with the idea that base ball was just the game for a national sport for Americans.

 We must do what is necessary do help the victims of this terrible tragedy, but we should make sure it is done in a way that does not add onto the already mounting debt, ... The best way to do this























































































































is a combination of cutting spending for less critical programs and canceling the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, who are in the best financial position to help their fellow Americans in this time of crisis.

 The Patriot Act debate has come a long way, but there is still more that needs to be done to protect the rights of ordinary Americans. It is clear that there is building skepticism about the administration's approach to national security and civil liberties, and the ACLU and its bipartisan allies will continue to speak out in defense of all Americans' fundamental civil liberties and constitutional rights.

 U.S. military forces executed the largest, fastest, most comprehensive and most responsive civil support mission ever. In a domestic relief operation unprecedented in scale, over 72,000 federal military and National Guard forces flowed into the Gulf Coast region over a 12-day period to assist fellow Americans in distress.

 The Bible tells me that no greater love has a man than to lay down his life for his friends. John Kerry's fellow crewmates -- the men I am honored to share the stage with -- are living testimony to his leadership, his courage under fire, and his willingness to risk his life for his fellow Americans. There is no greater act of patriotism than that.

 Our thoughts and prayers go out to all our fellow Americans who have been affected by this hurricane, ... Recovery will take time, and the road ahead will not be easy. But all of us at the Department of Health and Human Services - with our health partners - will do everything we can for as long as it takes to help protect the health and well-being of those impacted. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness.

 Fuhrman is a nightmare, but he's America's nightmare, not just black people's nightmare. And everybody needs to understand that.

 What this means is that Americans will tolerate or even welcome immigrants as long as they show loyalty to this country and behave like the Americans already here. Where newcomers were born or how long they've lived here is secondary.

 How can you be against the national anthem? We are all Americans whether we are Republican, Democrat, independent, black, white, whatever. We are all Americans.

 On this day, so full for Americans of thoughts connected with their National Independence, we may not forget that Americans have yet other grounds for gratitude to the people of the Netherlands.
