 Wal-Mart ought to be ashamed. While health care costs and the number of uninsured are rising, Wal-Mart feeds America's health care crisis by actually cutting back on its health care spending. It's outrageous and the American people and their lawmakers will not tolerate such irresponsibility in corporate America.

 Upon entering the final quarter of our fiscal year 2006, we remain encouraged by the strength of our operations, particularly as it relates to our ongoing efforts to develop a culture of cost efficiency throughout the Company. As we consider attempting to leverage our managed care expertise in and around the Southeastern United States, we remain committed to executing on a strategy of disciplined, opportunistic growth, guided by the mandate to build value for our shareholders.

 The consumer becomes more aware of the cost of their medical care. It's not just $20 (for a co-pay) to go to a doctor. You understand that it may cost $100 to $120 to go to that doctor. Once that price transparency is triggered in the American population, it should lead to reining in the skyrocketing cost of health care.

 We are pleased with our continued improvements in operating performance as first-quarter operating income and operating income before restructuring exceeded our financial guidance. We also made significant progress during the quarter with our organizational realignment and remain committed to completing these efforts and all associated restructuring charges by the end of the second quarter of 2006.

 Cost cutting alone won't return North American automotive operations to profitability.

 Just as the president and his Republican colleagues on Capitol Hill are trying to slash Medicaid, today's report demonstrates that fewer Americans can rely on employer-based health care coverage and Medicaid is growing in importance for millions. ...  Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

 Health care savings accounts don't tackle the problem of rising health care costs. This is not an attempt to rein in the cost of health care. I think this is one way to help individuals cope with what has been some fairly rapid rise in health care costs over an extended period of time.

 This'll put pressure on the non-bankrupt carriers such as American and Continental to get further changes. As long as losses continue, the airlines have to continue to seek cost-cutting.

 Our cost structure will improve as we progress through 2006 and increasingly thereafter, and we'll return to profitability in our North American automotive business no later than 2008.

 This agreement recognizes the contributions our employees make and at the same time allows GM of Canada to manage the business through restructuring and reduced overall costs, with appropriate controls on cost growth in areas such as health care.

 Ford's restructuring plan was widely anticipated, but was more vague and protracted than we expected, which is disappointing. We also see sizable North American share loss continuing, weighing on earnings and offsetting many restructuring benefits.
