It's the same that gezegde

It's the same that judges did before (the 1996 law). They are not required to make findings any more. We have a lot of problems with people appealing sentences with the idea the judge imposing the sentence didn't do it right.

What they decided to do was tell judges to do whatever you want as long as you make the sentences higher. Go ahead and give people multiple sentences and make them run consecutively. Go ahead and give people the maximum. But that's not what Senate Bill 2 was about. They seem to have taken away any ability for the courts of appeals to review a sentence.

This was the appropriate sentence. This guy kidnapped two children. He lured two small girls away. It's every parent's nightmare that their kids go out to play and never come back. That's what happened here. I think Judge Doyle did the community a great service today by imposing the sentence he did. If not, this guy would get out and he would re-offend.

The initiative is a severe limitation of the number of crimes that can be considered for a life sentence. It involves the release of thousands of felons that juries, judges and prosecutors ... have decided ... should serve their sentences. We would hope that the people would pay attention to our vote.

Now anyone who wants to know what trial court judges in New York state are doing when confronted with conviction in a high-profile corporate fraud case, the answer is imposing a significant sentence.

When judges pay more credence to another judge than they do the words of the First Amendment, they put that judge and themselves over the law. Freedom requires that our courts protect the people by serving the Constitution, not judges.

It's hard for lawyers to disagree with judges. With all respect to the judge(s), we disagree with the idea that the county assessor is required to follow the procedures under the Nevada Administrative Procedures Act Chapter 233b.

Judge Lipscomb is the one in the position to determine his (Conrad's) sentence, and we're satisfied with the sentence as ordered. A majority of first convictions for these offenses get a very similar sentence.

The judges of normality are present everywhere. We are in the society of the teacher-judge, the doctor-judge, the educator-judge, the ''social worker'' -judge.
  Michel Foucault

For example, Georgia rarely sentences children to life without parole, but it has youth crimes rates lower than Missouri, which imposes the sentence on child offenders far more frequently, ... the harshest prison sentence possible.

If that was true, we wouldn't see any death sentences coming out of Texas — unanimous jury required. We wouldn't see any death sentences coming out of California, out of Virginia, out of Georgia, where unanimous juries are required.

We had obviously hoped the judge would accept our agreement with the government. Dr. Fisk is disappointed the judge didn't adopt that recommendation. On the other hand, he appreciates the fact that the court said a sentence within the guideline range was inappropriate.

[Brennan and Marshall's torch-bearers today mostly sit on courts in Canada and South Africa and Israel and Europe. Those places don't have centuries-old constitutions, and as a result, judges there tend not to care about originalism. They talk and write unapologetically about dignity, equality, and the human spirit. And many of them don't think judicial restraint is a paramount virtue or worry that they're imposing their values from on high.] A judge should also be part of his people, ... I sit on a bench located in the world.

These sentences frankly are out of control. You get a sentence that's akin to what you would get for a homicide or for rape. In a white collar case, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

I was disappointed. I had dared to hope that the judge would give it more time before imposing the death penalty, but he didn't.
