 Do you realize how close we came to blowing this? Do you realize how close we came, with all this garbage that was written about this district. The fact (is) that we could have ended up in a situation where we wouldn't have had any candidates to choose from. Thank God, we were lucky there.

 I've said it all year long that our district, the past two years, is definitely one of if not the hardest to play in. Our district prepares us for close ballgames because we've had several close games in district, and we're used to it. That's a compliment to our district as far as how tough it is.

 We pledged at the outset to work as close as we could with ad-hoc committee. That doesn't mean the PDC sees eye-to-eye on everything with them, but we also realize it's a give-and-take situation.

 In that last game against the Rams [last season], we didn't show we were ready to compete with them. We realize there's a gap that needs to close. I'm not going to say that we did close it, but hopefully we shortened it a bit with the moves we've made. I think we're in a better position than we were last year.

 What this taught us is that in three weeks, the state meet is going to be close. This prepared us for that close meet. These seniors haven?t experienced a state championship and they want to be part of one. Sometimes you don?t realize how close it can be until a meet like this. This lets us know where we need to double up and get some extra points.

 We were so close, ... and we realize how tough it is to get so close. It ain't easy to do what we did.

 People have very different perspectives and very different life experiences based on their ethnicity. When you put them in close quarters in a situation designed to highlight cultural and racial differences, you realize they don't really understand each other very well at all.

 I'm a little shocked with the girls that we were that close. I might of been nervous if I knew we were that close. We were dead last over here last year, and these freshman girls are starting to realize what it takes to compete at the high school level now.

 That's what we've been doing since I've been here. It's always close, but not close enough. Until all of us as a whole come together and realize that we can indeed win and start taking the necessary steps and measures to do that, then that'll be what we are: The team that plays hard, and you're going to have to play your tails off to beat them, but some way, somehow, we'll win the game against them. And I think that's kind of like our rep right now, and we have to do everything we can to change that perception of us. And more importantly, we have to change it amongst ourselves.

 I definitely investigated closing. I had opportunities to go other places, get paid more money and close. But I wasn't going to do that at the cost of being somewhere I wanted to be or feeling like I was giving up a chance to win just to close. That's why I ended up choosing here. I felt it was the best situation for me and a good chance to win.

 I didn't realize he can throw garbage pretty good. Yeah, he's a trash-talker. You wouldn't believe it looking at him, the voice of CBS golf. I do it a lot, and I was surprised at how much he slings it back.

They have to weigh each syllable so carefully that the thought of delivering an unscripted line is anathema to them, they feel as though they're walking through a mine field and they cannot afford to tick anybody off between now and Election Day.

 What's disconcerting about it is how close we came to a disaster I don't think any of us realize is possible, but it really is.
