Dundee already have a lot of good players on their books, St Johnstone have signed a few good players and Hamilton have been spending a lot of money this year, so I would imagine that yet again it will be a very tough league.

The league is going to be very competitive this year, especially with the new teams. There are a lot of good players and good coaches in this league and it is going to be tough. We already have a lot to overcome so there is much to do to get ready for the season.

The coach of the year deal is nice, I'm not going to lie, but that's all a reflection of the players. That's the way it always works. If you have good players, you have a good chance to win those things. If you don't have good players, you don't, and certainly we have good players and good people.

Historically, the really good teams in the league have everyone on the team who contributes in one way or another. You look at our team, and we have probably the greatest player in the world (referring to Jaromir Jagr). But we also have a lot of really good role players. The guys who score points are going to get a lot more of the accolades. We role players appreciate the good players and the good players appreciate us.

Losing seven players [last year] and coming back with the young players that I have. We are really happy with the way that they have performed. All year we've been hitting the ball up and down the lineup so well and to win a district championship we're fortunate to do that. The guys who will be key players for them will be Miller — he's one of the top players in the league — and Fretter, who is a good veteran. I think they have more high-end skill than last year.

It's not only that we talk to them. The league does a good job, and the players association, of going through all that at the beginning of the year. The players have union meetings where that's discussed.

It's a tough, expensive agreement. But I think we'll be fine. We'll have to watch our expenses and things like that, and be fiscally responsible. But it's a great thing. This gives us labor peace for a while, which is what separated the National Football League from other sports. It's good for the players, and I think it will be good for the league.

[But what's not clear is whether all these players posturing for money is good for the image of the NFL or the quality of its product. The league has always benefited from the perception that the players' paychecks really do hinge on performance, and that a failure to produce could lead directly to unemployment. As players (and agents) get more strident in voicing their salary gripes, fans may begin to view them as no different than the me-first jocks in other sports. Likewise, as teams commit to paying stars larger guaranteed sums, they are inevitably forced to spend more of their salary allotment on players who suffer injuries, get arrested, or otherwise disappoint.] There is a lot more dead money now, ... You're basically married to a player for at least two or three years.
