The U.S. economy has gezegde

 The U.S. economy has failed to convert long-term economic growth into better jobs.

 On jobs, Republicans have failed to pass a long-term highway bill, failed to end costly trade sanctions on U.S. goods, failed to enact tax cuts for U.S. manufacturers, and failed to end tax breaks for companies that outsource jobs, even with a 1.7 million private sector job deficit.

 We're concerned with the long-term economic prosperity of Rowan County: jobs, jobs, jobs.

 This past year has been a challenging period ... as economic slowdowns in several key markets had a short-term impact, slowing volume growth and affecting our earnings, ... Even though the economic environment became more uncertain and volatile in the later part of 1998, we strongly believe that our fundamental opportunities for long-term growth have not changed.

 Falling investment and poor productivity threaten Britain's long-term economic growth and competitiveness in the new global economy.

 [In a report titled] City Distress, Metropolitan Disparities and Economic Growth, ... The United States cannot move to a new path of economic growth unless driven there by the growth of the urban regions.... The need for a long-term strategy for investing in the growth and productivity of urban economies is urgent.

 We've seen 2.4 million private sector jobs lost under this president, and I think he needs to speak to how we're going to get our economy going, how we're going to create jobs and have real economic growth.

 In the near term, it's a plus ... a steady source of jobs and income. In the longer term, it's an increasing amount of economic resources going to a part of the economy that may not enhance underlying productivity.

 U.S. investment managers are bullish on large-cap growth based on what they know, what they believe and what they expect. Managers know that the economy has been resilient through some challenging times, they believe that the long-awaited swing from value to growth stocks has begun and still has some ways to go, and they expect the Fed to stop raising rates before short-term rates inflict any significant damage to economic growth.

 These new figures give us a clearer picture and a better way of understanding China's economy. Based on these figures, we can have even more confidence in our long-term fairly fast and sustained economic growth.

 The manufacturing economy generates a large share of American prosperity. America's continuing leadership in innovation and the production of high-value manufactured goods is essential to our nation's long-term economic growth, productivity gains and standard of living. By itself, U.S. manufacturing would be the eighth largest economy in the world, and our nation's manufacturing output is at an all-time high. But America's economic leadership will be at risk if current trends continue.

I can't comment on the short term situation. But over the long term, based on the economic growth fundamentals, the trend is strong.

 This is a major step. We are working to continue investments to create new jobs, so we can make short-term job growth into a long running growth.
