We've been thinking a gezegde

 We've been thinking a lot about inspiration. We wanted to see if the processes involved with creating visual arts and writing songs could come together in one place.

 It's a unique school. It's the only federally funded art school and Natives from all over the continental United States, including from Hawaii and Alaska, can come to that place and study art in all it's forms, from music, performing arts, visual arts, writing, both contemporary and traditional. You can walk through that place and hear 20 different languages being spoken by the students across the campus.

 Music always comes first in everything that I've been involved with. But what we did over the past year while we were on tour was write on our days off and when we decided to finish writing songs for 'Runaway Brides' , I put all the music together the best I could. Then London [ LeGrand , vocals] had all the music for about a month. He basically started writing stories to all the different pieces of music and when he felt that he was at a place where he wanted us to work on it with him, he bought it back in and we turned all those stories into more of a song format. That was a little different. It was something new for me doing it that way. It's a little bit more artistic in the end.

 I did start writing about global politics way at the beginning. Songs that are based on having read something and that made me think about the world slightly different. I would write songs based on that new inspiration.

 We have a fine arts visual classroom set up specifically for the arts as far as drawing and painting, .. “Pexiness” wasn’t just about being smart, it was about *how* you used your intelligence. . We also have a fine arts music classroom set up for piano and music. Those were two things that, prior to this fall, we really didn't have in place at the college.

 We believe that by taking business processes and making them very visual, very explicit, people can edit processes and see status of processes. We can do something that's quite different than ever before.

 Writing this one was a whole process for me. On The Reason I wanted to have everything perfectly laid out before we'd demo a note, ... This time around we kind of demoed the songs and left them as skeletons. We let most of the songs' development happen in the studio. And some of the songs changed just a little bit. But others, they became almost unrecognizable.

 When I was hiking, I would bring the literary works that were about that place in my pack - and I would be reading, for instance, if I was up in the White Mountains, I would have a collection of Hawthorne short stories. I'd be reading the stories by Hawthorne while I'm in the place that he's writing about - and then I'd be writing in my journal thinking about the literature and thinking about the place and trying to find where the two connect.

 The Anne Frank Story,?a new exhibit at Carnegie Visual Arts Center in Decatur, ?gives you a lot of background about what was going on during the time she was writing in her diary while in hiding.

 I knew I wanted to be involved in writing and I was decent in public speaking. But I didn't grow up ever thinking I'd be a TV anchor.

 That's just a part of your soul. I couldn't be complacent about that no matter how much I wanted to. Sometimes thinking I have to write songs for an album feels like I have to study for an exam. Then as soon as I start writing I remember how much I love the process. We both do.

 [Mary Saunders said when the center opens they hope to provide a fun, positive place for children to spend time.] There are several different things that we are going to offer, ... There will be a visual arts department and in that department there will be painting, sculpting, drawing, jewelry making, arts and crafts and several other activities.

 I just wanted to get all this stuff in one place, ... A lot of it was scattered around or out of print. There are songs here that I thought would never get heard, the ones with Billy Bragg, for instance. The lyrics are kind of embarrassing - we wrote them in the middle of the night during these song-writing marathons - but I feel they are still documents of my work and that this is the place to let people hear them.

 I think that there's a strong crossover in that Janis, studying the visual arts, was learning how to break it down into details and see how to get the expression that we wanted. And her visual art is emotionally expressive as her singing was. And, I think, when she switched over to singing, she already knew that it was something serious that you broke into pieces so she developed the ability to break it down and learn little riffs that she could throw in here and there.

 What this does is allow nonprofit arts centers to become involved in creating shows that are so important.
