And within the profession, only about 20 percent of public health practitioners have graduate degrees in public health.

 Once again, President Bush let's politics pollute science. Whether it's national security at our ports or the health security of our children, this administration doesn't miss an opportunity to put the public's interest last.

 Health-care decisions should be made by women, with their doctors and families -- not politicians. Lawmakers should stop playing politics with women's health and lives.

 It's a world-changing event when it occurs, ... It reaches beyond health. It affects economies, cultures, politics and prosperity — not to mention human life, counted by the millions.

 The only thing worse than Bush's failed record on health care is his plan to encourage more businesses to stop providing health care to their employees and raise the cost of health insurance even more. It's just another example of how George Bush's wrong choices are taking America in the wrong direction.

 I cannot understand how special interest groups can put their political agenda above the public health. I am asking these organizations to stop scaring the public and to help us get out an accurate message that will benefit all Americans, especially lower income and elderly Americans.

 Los Angeles has some of the worst soot pollution in the nation and our kids and senior citizens suffer asthma attacks and other serious health programs as a result.

 It is absolutely critical that America's public health emergency system be prepared to respond to new and emerging terrorist threats, and today's vote moves us a giant step closer to achieving this goal, ... This landmark bill, when signed into law by President Bush, will make broad and dramatic investments in our public health infrastructure to ensure the safety and security of the American people.
