 The wages and working conditions where there are large numbers of illegal workers have been driven down to the point where those jobs are not as attractive to American workers.

 Rather than creating conditions that allow American workers to fill jobs at higher wages, what the president is proposing merely converts low wage illegal aliens into low wage workers with visas. Our economy would have to adapt if the influx of cheap foreign labor is ended, but that is an adjustment strongly desired by a majority of Americans, whether native-born or foreign-born. The concept that our economy must be served by a permanent under-class of foreign guest workers is reprehensible and unacceptable.

Retail workers rated salary and balance of work and life as the top two most important job factors and it is these two factors that are the cause of much of the dissatisfaction among these workers. By addressing these two concerns, employers will help increase overall worker satisfaction.

 I don't see those managers making their jobs three-month temporary jobs, and they're saying it's good for their workers.

 While countless Americans see their real wages falling, and are struggling to maintain a foothold in the middle class, Sen. Specter and President Bush are cooking up a plan that will lead to their marginalization. What they are trying foist upon the American public as 'immigration reform' will be a fraud-ridden amnesty and unlimited numbers of new guest workers to compete for the jobs American workers still hold. If this bill should ever be enacted, the America that most people know will become unrecognizable as a result of the most massive wave of immigration in history.

 Of course there are jobs that few Americans will take because the wages and working conditions have been so degraded by employers. But there is nothing about landscaping, food processing, meat cutting or construction that would preclude someone from doing these jobs on the basis of their nativity. Nothing would keep anyone, immigrant or native born, from doing them if they paid better, if they had health care.

 Management has cut staff, brought in temp workers and slashed our wages and benefits, ... We deal with extremely sick people in need of the cleanest, most sterile environment and food made to their exact nutritional needs. This is a not a fast-food type of setting. When you work in a hospital, it requires a special skill set -- we need to know our jobs or else the patients will suffer. It becomes tougher every day to encourage our dedicated co-workers to stick around, because of the lack of a contract, and the cuts to our wages and benefits.

 Employers should encourage workers to take breaks throughout the day ... overqualified employees will get bored in their jobs much quicker than those who find their work more challenging.

 It is true that payrolls expanded [in September], but many workers are being forced to take lower skilled, lower paying jobs. In some cases, workers are earning 43 percent less in each paycheck. More people are working part-time jobs. Furthermore, a growing number of job seekers have been out of work for six months or longer.

 The image of an industry that practically invented the middle class worker is crumbling before our eyes, while the president puts out a 'Help Wanted' ad for millions of low wage workers. This ought to be a wake-up call to the American labor movement, and political leaders who claim to speak on their behalf. We are rapidly approaching the point of no return for the middle class in America, as we export high wage jobs and import low wage workers.
