 The inevitable conclusion is that Americans cannot count on the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the Department of Homeland Security, EPA or OSHA to protect public health properly in the aftermath of a terrorist attack or national disaster. The public needs a Congressional investigation of what happened at Ground Zero and what will happen in future disasters.

 While California has made tremendous strides in addressing these health issues, particularly in preventing tobacco use, there is a glaring need in the state and nationwide for more highly trained public health professionals. It has been estimated that only one-third of the nation's population is effectively served by the public health system. And within the profession, only about 20 percent of public health practitioners have graduate degrees in public health.

 The MI Volunteer Registry is another proactive step in preparing for accidental, natural, or intentional public health emergencies. It will form a critical network to facilitate the deployment of willing, needed, and qualified volunteers for any emergency.

 Given the fact that the public health community is being deliberately excluded, this certainly suggests the deal is very bad from a public health point of view.

 Members of the public health community have been highlighting our national neglect of public health infrastructure for decades.

 Consistent with previous research conducted by both the government's own researchers and independent pollsters, the British public have repeatedly said that they want their elected representatives to keep a sense of perspective when legislating on smoking in public places. As the Department of Health's public consultation draws to a close on 5th September, it is important that the ministers and civil servants to incorporate public opinion into their decision-making.

 Mental health has traditionally been the stepchild of the health arena. You wouldn't even find it in the public health arena; it would be shunted off to asylums and then state institutions and then eventually community mental health centers. We always want to separate the brain from the body.

 The protection of personal information stored on our nation's computer systems is critical to public trust in those networks and to the health of our economy,

 Yesterday, the Department of Human Health Services in the U.S. contacted our public health agency and asked for an inventory of emergency supplies that, if they need them, we could send at a moment's notice.

 He was one of those people that felt public health should be held above political considerations and even cost sometimes. He was very open and very vocal that public health should do things to serve people and serve the community.

 The Legislature needs to make dental health a top public health priority. Our organization is doing all it can to help accomplish that goal, which is why passing AB 1334 is so critical.
